Wes Streeting, the gay former-health secretary of the United Kingdom who extended the country’s indefinite ban on gender-affirming care for youth, was appointed to a new role as Defense Secretary last month. He is now opening up about the massive uptick in homophobic abuse he has seen since taking on his new position, even as LGBTQ+ community members criticize him for his transphobic policies.

Ironically a big cause of this shit is how tribalist some communities are.

If you’re in any community that will support all your hot takes because your both members of the same demo, eventually members will expect the community to accept their hot takes against a demo that everyone else views as part of the same community.

So someone who identifies as LGBTQ, and believes that they need to support everyone else that’s LGBTQ, is going to end blindly supporting someone who is LGB, and doesn’t think the TQ’s are “us”.

You can’t just blindly support someone because they share a characteristic, that’s what racists and bigots do.

Because where someone falls on the Kinsey scale, or how well they identify with their natural body, none of that stuff actually determines what kind of person someone is.

Calming any of that makes anyone better or worse in anyway is just bigotry.

We need to all get on the same page with that, with any of these superficial demographics.

It just literally doesn’t fucking matter.

So you support this anti-tans guy because he’s gay?

Wes Streeting, the gay former-health secretary of the United Kingdom who extended the country’s indefinite ban on gender-affirming care for youth, was appointed to a new role as Defense Secretary last month.

Like, the guy the article is about, you support him?

I would fight for his right to be LGBTQ+ even if he is a complete asshole, yeah. I wouldnt support his policies, I dont agree with his politics, but Im not about to deny his identity as a gay man.

Im really not understanding what youre trying to say here then

Nobody told you not to buddy…

            I said:

And you got mad at me for not supporting a gay politician who took away gender affirming care…

All I’m saying, is this politicians sexuality and pronouns, would never make me support him, no matter what they were.

            Because his policies are hateful.

Like, I’ll call Kaitlyn Jenner Kaitlyn Jenner, I’m fine with that. But she’s still a hateful cunt that’s killed people directly and through her support of political policies.

Because I don’t care about someone’s demographics, I care about their policies and positions, and hers are fucking shitty.

I misunderstood your original comment and thought it came off as you saying he is right in not needing to support people in his own community, clearly the wrong interpretation of your point
