Only got me once but still, chill out guys
Core childhood memory incoming:
When I was kid, I got swarmed by ground bees when another kid leaped on their hive, and they ALL came after ME. Not one other kid got stung, but I got stung around 3O times. Also, while I was running through the woods, I got tangled in a some old rusty barbed-wire, which tore up my legs (wearing shorts).
So despite Benadryl shots (didn’t know if I was allergic or not, my grandfather was), I needed a tetanus shot, too.
I didn’t say it was a fun core childhood memory.
Spicy sky raisins! They have been a problem this year here too. I have a dog that likes to try and eat them sometimes.

As an old medic, I will slam you with an epi-pen. Possibly a C-Collar if I think you fell and banged your coconut. Maybe start a line for fun. Then tell the triage nurse you are a member of the dull-men’s community. May the Goddess of the ER take mercy upon you.
If a giant spinning blade noisily hovered directly over my house, I don’t think I’d be chill.
Why were you fucking bees? Great way to get your dick stung
I think you misunderstood. The ground bees were fucking while they got OP
That’s what OP gets for mowing over their porn studio
I’ve actually found ground bees to be incredibly chill. You can walk among their little nests and they mostly won’t pay you any mind (of course, mowing changes the equation a bit). Now if they had been yellow jackets nesting in the ground…
if they are what im thinking of in the fall they become sorta dicks.
Had that happen two years ago. Buncha yellow jackets made a nest on the outside of a metal egress and got me twice while mowing. After trying foams and sprays, I found boiling water to work quite well. Although maybe they were ground bees after all, esp with your mention of agitation when mowing. I even reached out prior to the extermination attempts to local apiary specialists to confirm what they were.
Using a riding lawnmower as a kid was how I found out that some bees lived in the ground. My face was so swollen due to all of the stings.
To top it off my uncle had disabled the safety switch that turns the mower off when you stand up so that stupid thing just kept going as I ran to the house. Stupid kid me ran back to the mower to turn it off which meant I got stung even more!
I had a story like this, but funnier ……
At one point when we were kids, we were grounded for whatever reason and really really wanted to go play in the woods behind our house.
- the four of us snuck out the basement door
- one at a time, sprint to cover behind the pool
- then one at a time mad dash from the pool to cover in the woods.
I made it first and ducked behind the compost pile for cover. Apparently I woke the hive
My little brother almost made it but stopped short and started swatting at his pants
My other younger brother started screaming and ran off toward the house.
Yeah, my older brother and I were the little shits laughing at our brothers’ pain
The dog found a nest of 'em in the backyard once. She started digging at the hole then stuck her nose in it. Got rewarded with a snoutful of bees for the effort.
Pooch looked like a happy hamster for a few days but recovered ok. She stopped rooting around after that though!
I was set upon by fire ants while I was mowing. I’m glad the hose was nearby.
For some reason, giant Asian hornets seem to love to dive at my tractor when I’m doing fieldwork this time of year. It’s always nerve-wracking. So far, they haven’t attacked me, but I’m sure my day will come.
Jesus christ you win no thanks
Heh, it’s not a competition. We don’t know if I’m still deathly allergic or not, but the bees might actually kill me. I had a really bad reaction as a kid aged ~4, but never since.
Yeah, young kids sometimes out grow allergies like that. It’s not common, but it happens. Still, you be bloody careful around bees and wasps!
you endanger their lives and ask them to chill?
guess they could ask the same of you
Plant more flowers so they are occupied while you are mowing.
It totally won’t bring in more…
Bee (hah) happy they weren’t wasps 🙏
There’s a wild bees nest in the bole of a tree where I sometimes walk my boy and I’ve been stung twice in passing. Once on the back of the head and once on the back. :/
I’ve heard they remember who delivered slights against them. Might be time to move indoors and wait for winter to erase the memory, though it may be passed down.
I have one of these for such occasions. Works on spiders too…
I’m still freaked out by the one time a spider spun a web across the sliders to my deck. It wasn’t even face height or sticky. It was one thick rope at knee height, like 8’ long. I’ve never encountered such a strong web before
