Though I do wonder where society is supposed to draw the line on this. Selling sex to boys is endemic. Babs Bunny is pretty openly sexualized as just one of many examples. Why are Elvira’s low cut dresses not-OK but Col Wilma Deering’s skin-tight jumpsuits are OK?

I had a dream recently about Deanna Troi and debating with myself how she was supposed to be hot. I concluded in dream logic that she was NOT, some contrast to Seven of Nine, who was obviously… What. They’re hot ladies wearing ridiculous getups. Synthetic fibers look weird friend, that’s the post dream logic
Between Deanna’s plunging neckline, ability to read minds and her no-nonsense attitude, she inspired equal amounts of arousal and anxiety.
They’re both fantastic characters, played by fantastic actors, don’t get me wrong. But TNG and subsequent spinoffs was so AWKWARD as deployed by middle aged dads, fuck I am unable. I do love voyager and ds9

Elvira was fun but absolutely a caricature. Cassandra on the other hand is still the real deal. I was a little disappointed with her participation in the Rob Zombie Munsters train wreck. Her showing up as Elvira wouldn’t have saved it. But would have made it more entertaining. As opposed to just painful. I really wanted to like it just from the casting of Sylvester as Grandpa’s assistant. But then maybe I’m just too big of a who fan lol.
Was Elvira, Mistress of the Dark the first “make fun of b-movies” TV show? I’m 53 and I remember watching her show and the hilariously awful horror films as a tweener.
She certainly wasn’t the first horror hostess. Vampyra and Tarantula Ghoul have her beat out by about a decade. But the combination of camp and comedy she brought were definitely her own. The camp coming from the time she worked with drag queens. And the comedy she developed in the Groundlings with Paul Reubens.
Sven Ghoulie was around well before Elvira.
The Elvira movie is, by today’s standards, offensive as fuck.
Which also makes it refreshing to watch, it has a couple of superbly delivered gags! It’s still so much fun!

Elvira is awesome. I always thought she was interesting, but I mostly saw her in advertisements and never saw enough of her to really appreciate the character. This video essay really upped my respect for her:
