[2026-07-18] @ETERNALPHYSICS@twitter.com: As the defender, if you miss, there will be no second chance to re-engage, explaining [2] why the US needs to deplete almost an entire magazine to destroy even one single RV.
RVs with terminal speeds exceeding mach 7, are almost immune to PAC3 & other AD systems.
[3] Even with advanced micro-thrusters, matching the lateral maneuverability of a modern Mach 7+ threat presents an agonizing G-force deficit. If a ballistic missile executes even a slight evasive maneuver or trajectory correction at Mach 7, the interceptor must pull an [4] exponentially higher amount of lateral acceleration, often exceeding 30 to 40 Gs, to cross the target’s path. Because the PAC-3’s airframe and internal electronics are bound by structural load limits, trying to match the sheer kinetic agility of a heavy, maneuvering [5] RV can overstress the missile’s composite materials or exceed the maximum capability of its dual-control autopilot algorithms.
🤩
I’m guessing that “RV” doesn’t mean a Winnebago?
re-entry vehicle (or reëntry vehicle for readers of The New Yorker)
Diaeresis is preferred when the word in question is separating limbs from bodies
Explosive Diaresis

Oh god it’s all over my brand new diphthong

Whenever I see this kind of footage I’m like, “man maybe you should go inside or something it’s awfully close”.
They know what the target is. This is probably like 5-10 miles away.
But what if there’s a 2ms error? (sarcasm but also I’d be inside just to play it safe)

👆 pretty stars
>Video showing a better angle of the impacts in Jordan. The second missile definitely hit something.
>Another round of strikes in Kuwait now. [video]
Rain hell on the yankee devils!
An interesting issue for air defence is the fact that the falling object trying to avoid the air defence does not have to consider which direction it uses to dodge. It can have a single evasive charge within the missile that can activate in any direction simply dependent upon which direction the missile has rotated towards during descent. The air defence system however needs to be omni-directional in order to match its movement, which could be in any random direction.
This fact of the interaction means that evasion can always be simpler (and cheaper to produce) than interception.
