They’re both right. Syfy abandoned their baby. Amazon took it in, supported it through school, and then kicked it out at 18 before it could go to college. (Last books).

I guess my gripe is mainly semantic in that it’s definitely not an original production by the second production company. Streaming companies tack on “original” or “original series” when they only either took over (Amazon and The Expanse) or just have the rights to stream it on their platform (Netflix with lots of shows they definitely didn’t produce).
If they’d simply had the title card say “An Amazon Production” I’d be fine with it.

Seasons 4-6, I believe. My gripe is just them calling it an “original” of theirs.
For comparison, Hulu did a similar move for The Orville for its 3rd season. But instead of calling it a “Hulu Original” the title says “Hulu presents”.
Edit: Nevermind, I was wrong. Hulu is actually worse lol. “Hulu presents…a Hulu Original.”
I hope someday we get a high budget remake with a lot better cgi, make the belters look like belters ya know. And adapt the last books in the series as well.
I hope so! But I thought the cgi in the series was actually quite solid. Time will tell of course.
CGI definitely had issues towards the end of season 3 imo. Once Amazon picked it up the CGI progressively got better
I want a high quality animated show.
Not only would the belters look right, but each location could have accurate gravity.

If you were a TV watcher, I bet it felt like betrayal when the show went to online streaming. I haven’t been a TV watcher since years started with “19”, so I first heard about The Expanse when Amazon took it over (and were streaming the whole thing).
I think what Stargate SG-1 did was way more disingenuous. The first episode was R-rated with nudity, profanity, and violence to match. From the second episode on it was strictly PG. (The original Stargate film was PG-13.) So this was all a bit weird. (Nothing against SG-1, it’s actually a fine series.)
To be fair, a lot of shows do this when they’re looking for a home initially
The Walking Dead was pitched first to HBO and the first episode and Season 1 were more geared towards being on HBO. (season one is the only time the super no no racist hard r was used) Allegedly HBO would have kept Frank Durabont and his vision for TWD would have continued instead of being fired and replaced with Charlie Adlard
HBO also passed on Breaking Bad and Mad Men too (Jesus Christ did they fire the exec who said no to both of these??)
I looked up the your Stargate SG1 compliant and it’s because it was in Showtime but moved very quickly to Sci-Fi. Apparently Showtime forced them to participate in the R rated content (nudity) and the producers hated it
HBO and Showtime do the nudity in the first episode/season thing a lot. Even Netflix started doing it with things like Orange is the New Black. It’s always been weird to me that people might be so thirsty in a world with such ready access to porn that it apparently helps the shows ratings.
I worked with an older man whose wife kept him on a tight leash, including monitoring Internet activity. It would be hard for him to get access to porn that his wife didn’t know about and she would be very unhappy if he accessed it.
These kinds of shows would be perfect for him.
You are telling me that she monitored his Internet activity but not what he watched? That HBO was easier than a private window or clearing history? Something that’s been part of Internet browsing for 30 years, since dude wasn’t old? That sounds like bullshit.
She definitely monitored what he watched. However, there were a few allowances like watching prestige TV that she also liked.
As for clearing history or private windows, she had installed tracking software to “protect the kids” and she would know if there was no browsing history at a time when he was online and assume the worst.
That’s just domestic abuse at that point.
Perhaps, but there are a variety of relationships where going to porn may not be acceptable, but media like this which skirts the line may be acceptable to someone’s relational, moral, or other reasons.
I would go to porn, but I’ve learned that my attitudes towards morality aren’t universal. Some people need an excuse or have a limit in a way that I don’t.
One of the reasons The Expanse is so good is because the book writers were heavily involved in the show.

Yeah but they got what would be magical health care there. None of us are gonna be looking 40 in our 70s. I dont even think it needs a reboot except for alex. He needs to br brought back for sure, but the slow is just different enough and pretty close just to continue.
Just make it 10 years instead of 30.

i had the same feeling when i saw my first “netflix original”.
but after a few and nobody is fact checking, i just ignore it. it is original to netflix i guess. jeniuses.

I had to think, but the few times I remember seeing “Netflix Original” for shows that I knew 100% were not original to Netflix, they were Canadian shows. Pretty sure they were Schitt’s Creek, Continuum, and/or Orphan Black. Maybe Netflix was the only service carrying them in the US and that allowed them to call it an “original” with a straight face?
At least with Black Mirror, Netflix is producing them now. It’s not “original” to them (like The Expanse wasn’t original to Amazon) but at least they have an actual stake in it.
