Much like with healthcare, all this bullshit with who uses what bathroom is a solved issue in other parts of the world.

… but being an American I assume it will never happen because building bathrooms to respect human privacy and dignity probably costs wealthy commercial property builders and owners at least $1 more than doing the bare minimum required by building code.

The solution, if you’re wondering, is that there isn’t a giant ladies’ room and giant men’s room. There are several individual bathrooms, each with its own little sink to wash hands and a real door. It doesn’t even take up much space. It’s just a short section of hallway with 3-4 doors on each side.

I’d just start by building toilet stall without gaps in the door so wide that people can see into the stalls whenever they walk past.

I went into one of those toilets you describe not too long ago in a restaurant

It was a pleasant novelty to have ‘my’ own individual space

It seems a practical solution for a problem that some dickheads are making for people that they’re unlikely to ever meet

I can’t find a direct quote from Trent saying this anywhere except reposts on various social media, none of which appear to be Reznor official.

Can anyone verify this is a real quote or is it just made up crap?

Edit: more digging…looks like the earliest edition of this was on instagram about a day ago and for some reason took off about 16 hours ago. My search-fu isn’t good enough to find the origin.

As GenX, Xennial, whatever we’re called these days, I miss this guy. I have to remind myself, 40s and 50s isn’t dead, yet.

Bite the Hand that Feeds comes to mind. Reznor refused to perform it at an awards show during the Gulf War because they wouldn’t let him display a giant head shot of George W. Bush during. Then there’s Bowie. Reznor was “Johnny” in the “I’m Afraid of Americans” video.

We also had Rage. What music is being produced now, rock side, that’s worth a damn?

ETA: Head. Like a Hole is fitting, in the billionaire era.

Hardcore punk as a genre is all good political rock. Incendiary is a great band that is reminiscent of Rage. One of my favorite bands is Hostages, but enough of their songs are calls to violence against pigs and politicians that it’ll probably put you on a list lol

If you’re looking for this specific sound may I suggest Fear is a Weapon / Release The List by Ben Lapidus

As far as just fantastic independent rock bands that aren’t afraid to experiment or get political then no one out there currently is doing it better than Foxing. I often describe them as Brand New meets NIN meets Pink Floyd, but just like those three each song/album is a different experience.

The entire Year Zero album was Trent’s revive of what would become MAGA. Unfortunately, the only solution for the problem in his album was aliens killing everyone.

It’s still a great album and very relevant today.

Run the Jewels has collaborated with Zach De la Rocha and Nobody Speak with DJ Shadow is an anthem.

Viagra Boys has some catchy antifascist lyrics.

I kinda like the Idles’ album Tangk. It more rock and makes some good points, mainly to “fuck the king”

The Nobody Speak video is so good!

And while they’re not current, I recently discovered a late 90’s early-aughts rap group called The Coup that was basically writing the soundtrack for everything happening now (which just goes to show that these issues have been with is for a long time).

A few notable tracks that spring to mind:

        • Kill My Landlord
        • 5 million ways to kill a CEO
        • and while the title doesn’t express it, the anti-billionaire track Pimps is as fucking hilarious as it is biting. These guys were clowning Trump back when he was just a simple civilian bigoted moron rapist.

Can’t believe I didn’t hear about this group back in the day, they’re one of my favorite discoveries in recent memory.

Boots Riley from The Coup and Tom Morello from RATM teamed up for a minute and put out the project Street Sweeper Social Club which has some bangers. Also the best indie political hip hop that’s come out lately is hands down from Infinity Knives and Brian Ennals. Their album A City Drowned in God’s Black Tears was my favorite album from last year.

Oh man I forgot about them.

Busdriver and a bunch of his collaborators rap about similar stuff. Lots of anti rich rapper lyrics too. Indie rap has been a great fill in for the lack of RATM over the last 20 years.

Yeah I’m up there too, but missed a lot of the better early indie rap because I lived outside good radio coverage in the 90s. The college stations near me were all grunge/indie rock (and lots of Phish). So that’s what I listened to.

It’s all underground and decentralized into its own communities. Takes a good amount of digging but its not like say the 70s-early 00s where smaller to medium sized labels were taking risks and funding all kinds of music that allowed for bands like NIN and Rage to hit the stratosphere. With all the M&A and industry contraction, risk taking is severely discouraged. Hence, the generic slop seen in the surface today.

That’s rich coming from a person who evidently believes that Dr. Seuss and Grinch are the same entity.

But please, tell me, who is the character in question?

I don’t give a shit about NIN’s lyrics, at least not on that album, and still I can comprehend that many popular songs employ the device of an imagined protagonist recounting a fictitious tale of their life.

Care to elaborate? Because I have literally no idea what you are talking about. I have never commented on Dr Seuss or Grinch in my entire existence on this website.

            I don’t give a shit about NIN’s lyrics

Then could you kindly fuck off and not join a conversation you don’t give a shit about?

I can comprehend that many popular songs employ the device of an imagined protagonist recounting a fictitious tale of their life.

Can you comprehend that many popular songs employ the device of an actual truthful history, recounting an autobiographical tale of their life?
