Did he actually say that? Can anyone confirm? Cause that’s pretty cool
Much like with healthcare, all this bullshit with who uses what bathroom is a solved issue in other parts of the world.
… but being an American I assume it will never happen because building bathrooms to respect human privacy and dignity probably costs wealthy commercial property builders and owners at least $1 more than doing the bare minimum required by building code.
The solution, if you’re wondering, is that there isn’t a giant ladies’ room and giant men’s room. There are several individual bathrooms, each with its own little sink to wash hands and a real door. It doesn’t even take up much space. It’s just a short section of hallway with 3-4 doors on each side.
I’d just start by building toilet stall without gaps in the door so wide that people can see into the stalls whenever they walk past.
I went into one of those toilets you describe not too long ago in a restaurant
It was a pleasant novelty to have ‘my’ own individual space
It seems a practical solution for a problem that some dickheads are making for people that they’re unlikely to ever meet
Edit spacing
Agreed
all the “fuck the system” bands from the 80s-90s were right all along
Rage Against The Machine were one of the realest bands ever.
Rage Against The Machine is what happens when I see AI in my web search results.
I preferred when they weren’t political.
Yea RATM is so woke now. I miss the good old days when they were just about having fun 🤭
Yeah. I miss that song about rainbows and butterflies and unicorns and candy.
Muse too.
Early Gen-X went from seeing the horrors of the Vietnam war on TV, straight into Reganism, Iran Contra, and more. All while under the looming shadow of global thermonuclear war, which was pushed heavily into the zeitgeist by cold-war politics at the time. Sure, there’s a lot good stuff from that era too, but there was also plenty to rage about.
Indeed, in the wise words of the Boys, Beastie: “You gotta fight… for your right… to partyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy”.
Also, in the words of Dee Snider and Twisted Sister: “We’re not gonna take it, anymore.”
Also in the words of Dee Snyder: “the only sado-masocism going on in the song ‘Under the Knife,’ is happening in Tipper Gore’s head.”
I love that that song was a throwaway to make a point and it went crazy.
I know right? Of course as a kid that totally flew over my head, it was just a jam. It’s still a jam anyways haha.
And they were only 16 years old when they made that album.
Tough to peak so early.
Yeah I bet they’re so sad they peaked early, they’re all crying & blowing their noses with million-dollar-bills in their mansions for the rest of their lives.
They’re mainly crying because of all the royalties they had to pay the guy that wrote their rhyming dictionary.
Punk was always right.
I have always loved punk and especially the Clash.
They had some great riffs and lyrics
Maybe not about the heroin.
Definitely not about the heroin.
Yeah, it’s come up a few times lately but even the big popular ones you could have seen on MTV like SOAD and RATM can be chilling to listen to today.
Just need to add church officials to that separate bathroom.
Would also seem like an excellent stimulus package. Install an extra bathroom for an, type of gender identity and one more for maga
I want gender reassignment surgery for everyone in MAGA, they’re way too sure of themselves.
I can’t find a direct quote from Trent saying this anywhere except reposts on various social media, none of which appear to be Reznor official.
Can anyone verify this is a real quote or is it just made up crap?
Edit: more digging…looks like the earliest edition of this was on instagram about a day ago and for some reason took off about 16 hours ago. My search-fu isn’t good enough to find the origin.
I can’t find it either…but I found this in The Village Voice from 2017: “the president of the United States is a complete fucking moron,” he seethes. “That’s what gets me the most — that he’s this vulgar, grotesque dope, everything I hate in people.”
This particular quote is made up.
So, it’s a terrible lie? I’m hurt. Makes me wish this fragile society wasn’t in such a downward spiral.
Now there’s a comment with teeth.
These days, I’m afraid of Americans.
Technically, they all are.
And now, here’s a few non-made up words;
Tragic. Any possibility he said it on tour?
Probably not this exact thing, but he has said a lot against Trump and MAGA.
I’ll take that over the alternative of say… A creepy video with RFK any day.
As GenX, Xennial, whatever we’re called these days, I miss this guy. I have to remind myself, 40s and 50s isn’t dead, yet.
Bite the Hand that Feeds comes to mind. Reznor refused to perform it at an awards show during the Gulf War because they wouldn’t let him display a giant head shot of George W. Bush during. Then there’s Bowie. Reznor was “Johnny” in the “I’m Afraid of Americans” video.
We also had Rage. What music is being produced now, rock side, that’s worth a damn?
ETA: Head. Like a Hole is fitting, in the billionaire era.
Hardcore punk as a genre is all good political rock. Incendiary is a great band that is reminiscent of Rage. One of my favorite bands is Hostages, but enough of their songs are calls to violence against pigs and politicians that it’ll probably put you on a list lol
If you’re looking for this specific sound may I suggest Fear is a Weapon / Release The List by Ben Lapidus
As far as just fantastic independent rock bands that aren’t afraid to experiment or get political then no one out there currently is doing it better than Foxing. I often describe them as Brand New meets NIN meets Pink Floyd, but just like those three each song/album is a different experience.
There was also SoaD and their singer Serj Tankian, who went solo. Their songs are still fucking dead on.
The entire Year Zero album was Trent’s revive of what would become MAGA. Unfortunately, the only solution for the problem in his album was aliens killing everyone.
It’s still a great album and very relevant today.
Seriously prophetic. The ARG for the album’s release was such a mind blowing experience.
Also Art.Is.Resistance. felt like what was prescriptive for the situation.

Parquet Courts, IDLES, Mannequin Pussy, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, black midi (recent rip), Kneecap, Turnstile, shame, Squid, Dry Cleaning, Yard Act, SPRINTS, Amyl & the Sniffers, so many more, the list goes on and on!
Check out Rise Against. Very much a “fuck the establishment” band.
Run the Jewels has collaborated with Zach De la Rocha and Nobody Speak with DJ Shadow is an anthem.
Viagra Boys has some catchy antifascist lyrics.
I kinda like the Idles’ album Tangk. It more rock and makes some good points, mainly to “fuck the king”
The Nobody Speak video is so good!
And while they’re not current, I recently discovered a late 90’s early-aughts rap group called The Coup that was basically writing the soundtrack for everything happening now (which just goes to show that these issues have been with is for a long time).
A few notable tracks that spring to mind:
- Kill My Landlord
- 5 million ways to kill a CEO
- and while the title doesn’t express it, the anti-billionaire track Pimps is as fucking hilarious as it is biting. These guys were clowning Trump back when he was just a simple civilian bigoted moron rapist.
Can’t believe I didn’t hear about this group back in the day, they’re one of my favorite discoveries in recent memory.
Boots Riley from The Coup and Tom Morello from RATM teamed up for a minute and put out the project Street Sweeper Social Club which has some bangers. Also the best indie political hip hop that’s come out lately is hands down from Infinity Knives and Brian Ennals. Their album A City Drowned in God’s Black Tears was my favorite album from last year.
Oh man I forgot about them.
Busdriver and a bunch of his collaborators rap about similar stuff. Lots of anti rich rapper lyrics too. Indie rap has been a great fill in for the lack of RATM over the last 20 years.
Oh shit, Busdriver! It’s been a minute, I got some relistening to do!
El-P collabed with Trent on Flyentology.
Fuck I’m old now aren’t I?
Proceeds to crank Thot Squad to feel young.
Yeah I’m up there too, but missed a lot of the better early indie rap because I lived outside good radio coverage in the 90s. The college stations near me were all grunge/indie rock (and lots of Phish). So that’s what I listened to.
I saw Viagra Boys open for Queens of the Stone Age. What are their freedom oriented songs?
Troglodyte is a pretty solid rebuke of the terminally online MAGA gun but.
It’s all underground and decentralized into its own communities. Takes a good amount of digging but its not like say the 70s-early 00s where smaller to medium sized labels were taking risks and funding all kinds of music that allowed for bands like NIN and Rage to hit the stratosphere. With all the M&A and industry contraction, risk taking is severely discouraged. Hence, the generic slop seen in the surface today.
Check out run the jewels. Corporate avenger was good but didn’t last very long. A lot of Slipknot is in the same vein.
RTJ make songs for Turbo Tax now. Sold out fucks.
Well, that’s disappointing.
Killer Mike is your textbook definition libertarian. He’s capitalist af with specific interest in specific progressive policies that he is personally invested in. Especially if those interest align with his brand image. He’s was rahrah Bernie until it wasn’t making him any money.
RTJ3 still my favorite though
Echoing good bands: IDLES, Grandson, Turnstile, Dropkick Murphys are still putting out stuff, St. Vincent, High Vis, Knocked Loose
That reminds me, we should make a list of people not in the files, it would be shorter.
Know what else would make the list shorter?

We have those, and they can be found at any Barnes & Noble. You can find them by the stench. 🤢
Not let’s get back to charging fans $500+ for tickets, yay capitalism
i know you’re exaggerating but i stood in line for 4 hours to pay $150 for a ticket to the Cold and Black and Infinite tour and it was worth every second and penny
Yeah Trent Reznor isn’t a good figure head of anything…
This the guy that sang
I left her on the bathroom floor, I think I knew when it crossed the line, I think I knew the whole goddamned time
That Trent?
I keep wondering if the inability to understand that a character is not the artist is a particular mental illness, or just regular abject stupidity. If you ever get diagnosed, please let me know.
Did you know that Eminem wrote increasingly deranged fan letters to himself under the name Stan and killed a woman?
Well at least I’m mature enough not to refer to people I disagree with my childish insults.
But please, tell me, who is the character in question?
childish insults
That’s rich coming from a person who evidently believes that Dr. Seuss and Grinch are the same entity.
But please, tell me, who is the character in question?
I don’t give a shit about NIN’s lyrics, at least not on that album, and still I can comprehend that many popular songs employ the device of an imagined protagonist recounting a fictitious tale of their life.
who evidently believes that Dr. Seuss and Grinch are the same entity.
Care to elaborate? Because I have literally no idea what you are talking about. I have never commented on Dr Seuss or Grinch in my entire existence on this website.
I don’t give a shit about NIN’s lyrics
Then could you kindly fuck off and not join a conversation you don’t give a shit about?
I can comprehend that many popular songs employ the device of an imagined protagonist recounting a fictitious tale of their life.
Can you comprehend that many popular songs employ the device of an actual truthful history, recounting an autobiographical tale of their life?
