It’s very hard to understand even half of what American Evangelicals are babbling about without a long and comprehensive talk about the history of the various movements and beliefs.
The best way I could even get started was some long series of blog posts, long ago, written by a theologian, who did pretty good critical literary commentary on the Left Behind series of novels. Looked at the nonsensical stupidity on the pages and then explained why was it that way.
Oh God I forgot about those books! I grabbed the first one not really knowing, thinking it was gonna be some cool post apocalypse adventure romp around. Only got a couple chapters in. It was sooooo bad.
