Also. Civilian presidents aren’t supposed to solute. Only presidents who served in the military are supposed to solute. Reagan and this idiot are the only ones who do it. The virtue signaling is part of their cult control

The news has won, I’ve been broken. I no longer give a fuck what happens to the USA. We voted for this shit.

I’ll still vote, but I can no longer engage in this Outrage of the Day journalism. If you didn’t vote in 2024 or voted for the orange pedo, fuck you so much. Which is most of the country. Fuck you all.

The president isn’t military, he’s not even supposed to salute. I know it’s become expected, but he is a civilian. Ignoring that, the only disrespectful is the type of hat he is wearing. You’re actually supposed to wear your cover outdoors, look at the actual military members in the photo. There are so many legit reasons to hate Trump we don’t need to make ones up.

Correct, and as he’s not military the preferred sign of respect is to remove his hat and put his hand over his heart. Like all prior presidents (whom have not served) do, and as other civilians in this photo are doing.

Trump has a long history of giving zero shits about signs of respect to the military though, so I’d say it’s always worth pointing them out for the crayon eaters that still vote for him in droves.

Example of a different enfeebled elderly president that actually respects the military signalling his respect to the fallen:

Also just to further snub Trump but Biden looks pretty good in his suit, well tailored and fitted to him. Unlike Trump who somehow wears clothes more I’ll fitting than mine, difference is I can’t get my clothes tailored and have a weird as build.

His expression is giving “I really need to poop” rather than “respect for the fallen”, but his tailoring is on point.

Nature and biology care little for ceremony, for example Gestures at pile of heat striken privates during ceremony though I’m not military I grew up around enough veterans to know how common that is, also witnessed it happen twice while in boy scouts.

Yes. That’s not a military position, that’s a civilian position. The ironic part is, the military is commanded by a civilian to keep the military in check…

Actually very well. You don’t understand the point you’re trying to make. The military being commanded by a civilian to keep the military in check is about keeping the military from ruling the country. See: Pakistan, Myanmar.

What you see is the civilian government throwing the military around carelessly, not the military getting out of check.

If you want to laugh about something, laugh about how the checks and balances between the 3 branches of government have broken down, not about the military ruling over the people.

Fascists have this weird tendency to appear as if they are soldiers. Attire, manner, etc. Hitler used to do this too.

Yeah, that’s the thing, for Hitler, that military boner made sense, he was drafted, fought in the war, was injured in the war, and was disappointed that he couldn’t fight after his injury. Guy actually loved participating in war. Him appearing in uniform at least made some sense (even though he only had a very basic military career if one can even call it that).

Donnie just loves the power he can exert with it, and I’d be ashamed as a soldier to serve under a draft-dodging racist bitch boy who makes fun of veterans. Let’s see how it turns out.

The best and safest way to sabotage the military as a soldier is to follow every order to the letter.

Not sure I want to make any comparisons between those two where one is better or worse than the other, they’re both despicable for their own reasons; there is some overlap in their non-qualities but they’re much different in what motivates / motivated them

I’m not sure why wearing a suit and a MAGA campaign merch hat is trying to appear as if he’s a soldier. If you mean the salute, presidents have been doing that for ages. The general public knows so little about salutes and related protocols that they’d take it as disrespectful if he didn’t salute.

To add to what you said, the origin of the salute is related to headgear.

One potential origin of the salute is knights raising their faceguards, which obviously requires you to be wearing one. Another potential origin of the salute is the courtesy of removing your hat in the presence of a superior officer. You still see this (though mostly in period historical dramas) with the hat tip.

The military still retains that link, you’re not supposed to salute while wearing your hat. For civilians, the equivalent respectful move is to remove your hat in certain situations. These days you mostly encounter that at a sporting event where people sometimes remove their hats during the national anthem.

So, for a president who isn’t part of the military, the official protocol is probably to stand at attention while not wearing a hat. An acceptable modern alternative is to salute, and since hats are uncommon these days it’s mostly to salute while not wearing a hat. Saluting while wearing a hat is probably a reasonable variation on that. A disrespectful move would be to wear a hat and not salute. Of course, the fact it’s a MAGA campaign merch hat is disrespectful in itself.

Was it Regan who started returning salutes when saluted by military members? I’m not 100% sure but I want to say before that most presents just acknowledged the salute and went on. I seem to remember it was Ronnie that started the trend.

I can’t think of any recent presidents from either side who would have caught dead pulling the maneuver in this photo, however.

When I’ve watched news from the USA, even the left wing ones, all they care about is the “six servicemen who were killed.” Americans are truely the most exceptional people. Even on the left other countries are populated by subhumans.

So the folks killing children in Iran didn’t get a proper salute from the guy whose orders they followed. So what? To me this is about as shocking and emotionally devastating as Hitler not shaking the hand of an SS officer.

That’s not the point here. They’re acting like they support the actual servicemen and women, when in reality it’s fake to appease the cult. Act like you give a shit so you can use them and the followers will keep licking the boot. He’s a fucking draft dodger too. Just trying to use armed services as his personal army.

Same with how Republicans are all “law and order” and elected a convicted felon. Or how they’ll say if you just do what they say, you won’t get hurt (by police) completely ignoring the fact that being white is the more accurate reason the police let them go or didn’t fuck them up for the same crime a black or brown person would go straight to jail or catch a beating for. ACAB.
