That’s what I popped in to say. Use Old Reddit exclusively, first found out about this here… two days later. I have /r/all perpetually in a tab to stumble across stuff I normally never would have. Still working 100% fine.

Okay, so the neighbors are doing something weird at their house? Good for them I guess. But who cares?

Meanwhile we’re here chilling on the Fediverse immune from their harm because we’ve opted out of centralisation by corporations.

Except you know stuff like this can still happen here. The frediverse just is like five big pillars. All hoping to God each other stay stable instead of one pillar hoping it stays stable.

Like if lemmy.world just went up and poof it would be really really bad.

It’s a fair point given the size of Lemmy World. But if it went poof, most of us (me included) would pick a new server - hopefully one of the more medium sized ones rather than the larger pillars. Beauty of decentralisation.

Grass is much greener here on our new lawns compared to the old Reddit lawns, which switched to AstroTurf.

This was the death knell for me. It’s been slowly getting worse year after year and the change to disallow third party apps (and later changing it to allow API access with a payment) almost sent me off for good.

But like… without the r/all page, there isn’t even a reason for me to go there anymore.

since they removed nudity, all that is spammed is that creepy ass loli fandom, i think the implication might be simpler to understand if you understand their power users

Anime girls. Lots of anime girls.

People as normal do just call everything anime loli because hating in anime is popular still for some reason.

There is of course loli in the mix anime has plenty of loli. But to claim it’s just loli is flat out trolling.

Hell this is exactly why I am here at all. I noticed it was harder and harder to use Reddit: algorithm taking over. All moving to harder to find places, and it seemed even then to be more flooded with what was recently looking at instead of just general community vibes.

    Searched for Reddit alternatives…

I’m so tired of engagement algorithms.

Yeah I think we take for granted that the replies/posts are mostly by real people here, or at least I do. It’s like forgetting that you have to argue with your OS after using linux over windows.

I recall seeing a Reddit sub that was entirely populated by bots. The replies were nearly indistinguishable from humans. It really coloured my view of Reddit - what’s the point of engaging when I’m likely talking to lines of code?

As far as I can tell, this is only in regards to the app. They removed the easy link to r/All (and in the post deliberately failed to capitalize “All” which will make the link fail in order to make it look actually gone to the more ignorant users. You can still access it via the app, but you have to set r/All as one of your social links. It is convoluted and annoying, but works.

Yeah but at this point why even bother?

We have Lemmy. It’s clean, open, simple. I’ve accidentally opened the new Reddit and it gave me nausea.

Of course they’re going to remove it from the frontend first. Do you think they’ll keep the endpoint around after it’s no longer exposed on any first-party client?

    r/all is Reddit.

Are you guys dumb or something?

This perfectly encapsulates how I feel.

It’s the only part of Reddit I use anymore.

The last few years have really solidified Reddit’s collapse. It’s not going to happen overnight. In 5 years it’ll be a shell of itself. It’ll feel like Digg.
