I am seeing more and more. There was no vote on this. No discussion. No announcements. They are facing both sides of the road on many corners. Surrounding parking lots in Lowes and grocery stores, which point to a level of private cooperation as well.

lol I bet the executive who approved that dystopian super bowl ad was fired, jk promoted and given a raise
There are two in my fair town. Both are on TXDOT owned passages. One is quite high up maybe 30-40 foot above the nearby overpasses and while not inaccessible its height and open location make it a challenge to knock down, but the second one is on a post at road level and that one is always knocked down. It spends more time knocked over than it does right side up. When I drive by and I see it’s knocked over I think to myself ‘yes’.
Angle grinders can do wonders at 3 AM is all I’m saying.
Air rifles are so much fun.

This is good though
I wonder how one takes down one of these cameras without getting caught
Angle grinder on pole if high up. Basically anything destructive if within arm’s reach.
Battery operated reciprocating saw or circular saw
There’s one near where I live that’s isolated, I’ve really been thinking about going out there late at night and performing some, uh, science. It would be nice to hear the results of other experiments first though.
They only face one direction, unless they have hidden smaller lenses on them that you can’t see when driving by.
They are pitting up more and more facing the opposite way across from each other. Lord knows how much these cost taxpayers each month. They basically double up on them.
Yeah I know which way this one faces too. I just don’t know what the smoothest way of disabling it would be.
The smoothest is to shoot it. Fast. Can leave right away. But you’d want to be certain nobody could be in the path behind it.
If it’s on a pole, use an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel designed for aluminum, which is what the poles are usually made of. It’ll take maybe a minute or two to take the whole pole down so… do at 3 AM. Once down, destroy the camera. The angle grinder will work on it too.
Wear proper eye protection. Don’t bring your phone. Be ready to run.
I thought about the angle grinder idea, but it’s right next to a bunch of houses and I have no doubt the residents would call the cops, at best. Might decide they feel like being cops today at worst. Whatever I did, I’d want it to be quiet and over in a moment.
Shooting it is tricky for the same reason, I don’t know if I could get a good angle where I’d be sure the bullet wouldn’t come down in somebody’s house.
I’ve thought about the spray paint idea someone mentioned before, what are your thoughts there? Could be cleaned, but I could just come back and do it again, and it’s way easier and cheaper for me than for them.
Best to practice if you’re not comfortable with an angle grinder. It really should only take a minute or two. That’s short enough that you don’t have to worry about cops any more than if you were taking any other approach. Cops take around 30 minutes to show up to literally anything on average.
Angle grinders are very loud. There are no quiet ways to take these things out except to climb the poles, but that’s much more dangerous and takes way longer. You could compromise and do something medium-loud like use a slingshot, but it might take you 50 shots unless you’re well-practiced. Angle grinders work for everyone with 10 minutes of training and practice. It’s how thieves steal things that are locked up. Most of the time nobody cares or notices. This is annoying if you’re being stolen from but handy if you’re destroying a fascistic surveillance device.
Spray paint only works if it’s within reach. These things tend to be on the top of very tall poles. Also if you’re doing spray paint might as well just destroy the thing instead.
To clarify I’m not telling you that you need to do any of these things. If it’s beyond your comfort zone or seems infeasible then your time is surely better spent on organizing.
I always thought slingshots with ceramic pebbles would be useful in unrelated situations
Spray paint I think would be easiest and fastest. At night, with IR blocking glasses and/or one of the IR light hoodies
Unrelated, but you can get hunting crossbows capable of punching through steel. Very cool since they don’t create loud noises like guns and you can reuse the bolts after simply picking them up.
No pearl clutching. Not Slop.
Article still seemed reactionary to me. Referring to acts of “vandalism”. There’s a whole movement of people against these cameras.
No its not. The article spends most of its words explaining why people are vandalizing the cameras. It clearly draws the its connections to ICE. It mentions multiple legal attempts to block it. It doesn’t talk about any “benefits” of the surveillance system and explicitly calls it a “surveillance system”. Almost everyone it cites are pro-privacy. That’s being as anti-flock as you can get without saying “go destroy flock cameras”.
CN should be required listening. Or maybe just reading the article.
Centrist liberals likely. I guess centrist liberal is redundant though.
Oh, they are? Guess I can sit back and relax then.
Fuck that company for giving it that name, I thought they were like, bird watching cameras for wildlife preservation or something, like monitoring wildlife movements in cities or something.
I mean, they kind of are
