Unfortunately it’s not just the aged. The propaganda is so effective that even moderately younger demographics are spouting bullshit about ‘islam’ being an invasion and that’s why Japanese First isn’t racism etc. utterly pathetic but as Lenin said, the ideas of any society are the ideas of it’s ruling class. Look at the amount of soda stream units sold after the genocide started. People are so easily manipulated not only in the US but in Japan as well. Never about class, always about race.

Support for the LDP, sanseito and conservitive ideas is mostly within the youth in japan https://mainichi.jp/articles/20251026/k00/00m/010/303000c

日本共産党 is notoriously an old people thing. If you just search this term on Japanese websites youll find tons of people saying the usual anti communist bullshit +Japanese. When the election happened I saw a couple that were “日本共産党は日本の敵です” “The communist part is the enemy of the people” It had a picture of a pamphlet from them that simply acknowledged US aggression and called for lessening japans reliance on them. It also called for a higher tax on the rich. and “こいつらを逮捕できないのは何かのバグだろ…” “It’s a (programming) bug that we cant arrest these guys” There was even one I’m not sure how it was worded that called for 京都 Kyoto to be burned because its “where all the communists are” even though i think southern Tokyo was a hotspot

Not to say all older people do, its just their usual crowd is older because they’ve become less effective at actually reaching people over the years and their supporters have simply aged…that being said they can still be reactionary. There was a street interview I saw where a lady was in support of the communist party but was considering going with Sanseito because she hated what “chinese and indians were doing to japan” and that “white people were okay”

Its just Western/Imperial propoganda rotting the minds and a really ineffective incompetent left party. Which lets be real is basically just liberal, the actual revolutionaries branched off and arent in the party.

Also Takaichi is just seen as cool, she had a lotta hobbies before like being in a band, liking metal, riding a bike, she’s just a cult of personality and pulled with it. Talking about politics is frowned upon by older generations but most younger ppl dont care about many traditions. It’s just a theory, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this helped her gain notoriety because people just talk about the cool stuff rather than the political stuff.

So much paremovedo. It’s very popular here. Sometimes families take their kids to paremovedo. If not that, then many places have “amusement areas” - basically a ton of gambly arcade type games like ufo catcher or coin tossers, kids will play these a lot. Typical arcade games will also be present, especially rythm games (which i kinda enjoy too tbh). Karaoke is another thing I like a lot and it’s actually really popular - its not like America where you go to a bar and sing in front of tons of people, instead you rent a room for some amount of time with friends and do it that way. You can rent a room all night if you want and there’s drink and food services. I’ve known some friends rent a karaoke room for the night if hotel rooms are unavailable as a place to sleep. Hiking is also really popular for good reason, east to walk places and lots of nature to see. Old people fucking love hiking.

And then of course, there’s drinking. So much drinking. Every weekend I go out for a walk and there’s 5 new puke spots that no one cleans up lmao.

E: also forgot train photography/watching - lots of train otakus and families taking their kids to watch/ride the trains. Old people will do most of these things (with their grandchildren especially) except maybe karaoke, I just thought it was interesting to mention.

This made me genuinely curious, so I tried looking into it.

For one, holy shit, good luck finding anything besides travel spots for elderly people visiting Japan. Also some possibly racist “Japanese tricks” for “aging gracefully”.

But once I started finding actual activities, uh… School, community services, and leadership roles for companies. Things that keep them physically and mentally active, and sometimes help bring in money. I couldn’t find much on actual leisure activities. Looks to be a cultural thing, not remaining active in some way is seen as being a burden on your family.

Outside of that, I wouldn’t be surprised if Pachinko was up there. It’s already a fairly popular game, and if the parlors are anything like your average casino, the average age definitely trends upwards.
