considering you made a account on piefed, you would have likely been asked your interests in first login, you can similarly explore community groups (or feeds as they are called here), which is equivalent of meta subreddit. try to find communities you can get along with, and if possible, please do post and comment, all your efforts are welcome.
My pro tip is that it’s ok to block things you don’t want to see. Communities or people.
Only advisement if can provide is to not expect too much from any sports communities. NBA might be different than my main 2 (NFL & NHL) and be more engaging but in general the overall opinion of sports on lemmy is bleak at best. I’ve even made posts a long long time ago in a lemmy galaxy that is far far away, that regarded sport’s fandom. The response was kinda mixed initially, then moved more and more cynical as time progressed.
