Technology@lemmy.world•Firefox is ending support for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1; Mozilla recommend switching to Linux, for people who can't run Windows 10 or 11English
2·4 天前Even that doesn’t bring normal Windows 10 close to the IoT versions from my experience; it debloats it pretty good but not enough.
It’s the best legal option for sure.

4·4 天前There’s absolutely no depth to the fact that the Index contributes to the already sky-high pile of e-waste by design. A device that isn’t really that innovative; small voice recorders have existed for decades. Yes, it’s convenient to have it in ring form I guess but having convenience at the cost of the environment is exactly the problem.
I didn’t mean to offend anyone or be that harsh really, I just said that to vent my frustrations without thinking too much about it to be honest. I kinda do that from time to time. My apologies for that; it’s something that I’ve been working on.

41·4 天前Just cancelled my pre-order today, I just realised that I don’t really need one after all… and I’m kinda tired of waiting. Yes, I could’ve probably sold it on eBay for a nice profit, but I’m not THAT kind of asshole.
That Index 01 is atrocious.

Australia@aussie.zone•Australia: Chinese HungryPanda food delivery drivers say police contacted family members back home as part of pressure campaign to stop them protestingEnglish
6·5 天前Why would they discuss stuff like that in a messaging app monitored by the Chinese government?

Australia@aussie.zone•Do migrants feel they belong in Australia? The answer is complicatedEnglish
1·5 天前Well, I kinda feel the same about Germany nowadays; it’s always very vocal minorities (nazis and the like) ruining it for everyone else. Only thing is that there are probably more of those those people in any European country than there are in Australia.

15·5 天前I kinda wanna go to that bar right now, it seems like a cool place.

Technology@lemmy.world•Valve’s Steam Machine has been delayed, and the RAM crisis will impact pricingEnglish
5·6 天前I adore the Steam Deck inputs and having that in a standalone controller is just awesome, plus it’ll make for a great remote control for my pc in desktop mode.
The gyro would be awesome for Wii emulation. Only things I miss from the OG Steam Controller are the two-stage triggers.

Technology@lemmy.world•Valve’s Steam Machine has been delayed, and the RAM crisis will impact pricingEnglish
23·6 天前I hope that’s what they’ll do. The controller is all I need right now; if prices weren’t so fucked I’d get a Steam Frame but nah
Sounds kinda like F#A#∞ by Godspeed You! Black Emperor in concept.

62·8 天前I mean, yeah, it does look kinda cool. Not sure why they think that all I do all day is stare at screws, but that’s just me.
“Hey mate, got a new car today”
“Wow, that’s awesome. How does it drive?”
“Dunno, I just bought it to look at the screws. Look, they’re shaped like the BMW logo!”

Technology@lemmy.world•In a blind test, audiophiles couldn't tell the difference between audio signals sent through copper wire, a banana, or wet mudEnglish
30·9 天前I mean yeah, audiophile cables are 100% a rip-off every time. You can spend thousands on a cable without it having any real benefits.
It makes more sense to just buy decent speakers and a decent amp, along with a good audio source (any CD player).

Why the fuck is this even being considered? I know, money, but c’mon Australia…
“Looking forward to considering”, sounds to me like a very formal way to say fuck off…
