A £3 tesco gift card. Seriously. Just saw a tesco employee complaining about it on reddit.

Before I left nursing, the last facility I worked in gave us a rock because we’re the emotional rock for our patients. I was solo-caring for 20-60 patients per night. Each of them paid £2000+ per month. The owner would brag about his collection of classic cars in his mountain chateau and drive a different one down to the Christmas party every year. The director of nursing would weaponise our empathy for our patients to guilt us into worse labour conditions and more dangerous patient care.

Now my bonus is a staff potluck because they aren’t even willing to provide pizza. Anything I could make for a workplace that large costs at least twice my hourly wage, which hasn’t risen in 3 years. I’m not being paid to cook it or attend the potluck, which my bosses will probably be paid to host.

I used to work as a carer for the elderly in a nursing home. I was on minimum wage, the boss was a millionaire who owned 5 nursing homes. The nurses got taken to a meal in a cheap restaurant by him as their Christmas bonus, the carers got nothing.

I work as a computer toucher in the private sector. I usually get a gift card to chose from an assortment of bougie gifts worth about USD 200, the maximum you can get before being taxed. In addition the company pays a Christmas party in the form of a nice dinner at a nice restaurant. I’m not complaining.

My partner on the other hand is a public school teacher. Last year they got an insultingly small bag of caramels and a half-assed Christmas card with a picture of their asshole principal.

The more I read what westerners say about their life, the more questions I have. Like here in Russia almost everywhere we get our monthly wage as a new year gift at work. How tf you survive 😭

Not to mention that neither I, not the people I know had any problems with employment, you can always find a job you like with decent wage (like default cashier gets like 4-6x minimal wage)

We don’t. We praise the EU and build tanks.

Bur honestly, living costs are keep going up, the job market is very stale and rigid so you’re stuck with a shit job. Salaries are barely keeping up with inflation. And we’re talking of a 2% inflation in the Eurozone. Add on top the austerity measures across most EU countries and you have the perfect conditions for fascists rising again. I’m just so tired of all of this.

Oh and a year ago the propaganda was that with the help of AI we’ll be able to work less and less. This has now done a 180 and the discussions range from cancelling a public holiday (where I always advocate for Christmas just to annoy the Libs), or working 48 hours/week.
