It’s basically “What if Shield Hero were good?”, although it’s not an isekai.

They both have a similar mentality “this world has wronged me so I will fight it”. But in Shield Hero it’s used to justify the protagonist just being a total piece of shit. Whereas in her show it’s used to justify beating the shit out of nobles and slavers.

The two possible pathways to take when the world wrongs you.

Watching the first episode. I don’t care for the fact that she punched the other woman instead of the prince. At the very least she should have punched both of them.

Did you, uh, watch the entire episode.

She takes out everyone in the room, saving him for last but hitting him the hardest of all of them.

No, I finished eating and had to go back to work. I’m trying to get enough money to leave the country.

It’s not that level of quality lol I don’t want to mistakenly hype people up that much for it! Lustrous was an industry-changing show for what it did to 3d in the industry, and that’s totally ignoring the fact it’s so deep with layers to peel back if you really examine the various issues and neuroses being depicted in all the characters various mental health problems. Don’t get me started on how accurate all the properties of the gems are lol.

This show is just fun. Beat up some slavers. Laugh while they do it. Lustrous on the other hand is art, very different things.

Omg, thank you so much for this rec—I binged all the episodes that are out! This the kind of show where based on the poster alone I would (and in fact, did) scroll straight past it when deciding what shows to watch for the season, so I doubt I would have ever watched it if not for seeing this post. Super satisfying and very brisk pacing (to the point where I almost don’t see how the pacing can be maintained, but we’ll see). And yeah, it’s not exactly high art, but it’s tons of fun, and it’s nice to have such a strong counter to all the gross isekai slavery stuff.

Glad you liked it! It’s an unusual one, I can understand scrolling past it in the list of seasonal shows and thinking “more slop”. It’s not the greatest but the premise is different and that’s interesting at the very least. It is cathartic to have a character who is completely unashamed about her belief in justice and completely lacking in hesitation to dish out that justice with her own personal application of violence.

Too much isekai and fantasy is used to justify the idea of abhorrent things being ok because they were common in those settings. I really just want to see her go through all the abhorrent tropes and beat the shit out of people for them. They can hold a mirror up to the audience, include a loli relationship and have Scarlet beat the shit out of someone for it for example. I don’t know how far they’ll go if it has potential to upset its own audience, but I hope they do.
