I dunno if it’s a good or bad thing, but memes have kind of died now that they’re largely used on social media advertising to sell shit.
Even more cringe is when they’re used by politicians lol. Like I kid you not republicans print out their bad memes on display boards and bring them to congress and shit. We truely live in surreal times.
I take it back. Memes are back baby!
faith in humanity: restored!
Considering stuff like this is a meme, I see your point:
Ah yes, I forgot the extra nail in the coffin, AI.
AI generated art is a meme now?
Unfortunately. Look up “Italian AI brainrot” If you’re feeling brave.
Italian
I am not that brave
Tralalero tralalala is funny tho
I will craft a meme that will bring sexy back. Watch this space!
👀
I don’t think they’re dead, but the shelf life between “organic meme” and “meme that corporations and politicians have cringed to death” is shorter than it used to be.
Believe Walmart was selling shirts with wojacks on them at one point and assumed we were cooked.
Are you new to the concept of memes?
I suggest you play the entire Metal Gear Solid franchise.
The memes are dead long live the memes
Good. I wasn’t getting royalties for my image being used
What if we return to deep fried memes, makes the leftovers more palatable.
I remember when they were called fads and lasted for like a year or so.
People forgot the ancient art of microsoft paint.
As long as slammer is making memes, memes cannot die. https://slammermemes.wordpress.com/
I wish slammer posted on here
For a long time I thought he did because I never saw it elsewhere. I didn’t realize hexbearians were just reposting his stuff.
Replace the word for meme and it will live again and make some weird rules for differentiating it.
lets go back to the original definition of meme,
Memory+gene,
IE, a concept that is shared and survives on its own. I can teach you to do something, which you teach someone else and so on.
those concepts can change and are affected by natural selection, is it isn’t shared it dies, if it changes (unintentionally, let’s say when you teach someone you change it a bit and that version makes it easier to teach)…
it’s a term coined be Richard Dawkins in the selfish gene(he is a bit of a twat but that idea is interesting).
unless you are referring to a very specific kind of meme (like using animal templates for online memes) memes cannot really end. language is a meme, culture is a meme.
We all know what they mean lmao you don’t have to
so hard that you intentionally don’t get what they’re saying
It was definitely a
comment, but that’s not always a bad thing. I think many people actually don’t know that was the original meaning of the word, and while it’s too late imo to try to use the word ‘meme’ that way, it is a powerful and potentially useful concept that I wish we did have a more exclusive term for.
Memes, Jack!
