what’s the end goal here Zohran. ‘Socialism’ (actually social democracy) but with a roving gang of armed and organized fascists that we just ignore? are we just going to kick the issue of systemic racism down the road because it’s “woke 1” to even talk about, until it becomes a powder keg again? this is the actual internal DSA white chauvinism contradiction that MSM are clawing to find but they won’t use it as a real wedge because it’d increase the salience of Defund again

He’s what, 6 months into his term? 7? And he hasn’t activated FALGSC?
I’m friends with working class New Yorkers and his policies have already helped them, they should save thousands this year alone from universal child care. He could can the Zionist commissioner but then he’d get hardballed on economic issues. Maybe let’s give it a second.
I’m more uncomfortable with the explicit tailist signaling he is doing on the issue. I would not be addressing it as tailism if he didn’t actively signal his splitting on the issue from the DSA national platform openly when vaguely prompted.
this statement isn’t really incompatible with cutting the budget & doing reforms, just outright abolition. is abolition even an immediate demand of DSA national? that seems a few grains idealistic
I don’t have a hatered of mamdani tbh but isn’t this just an exaggeration of the critiques of his tailism on certain issues?
Like, how many months in are we allowed to criticise politicians? Are we allowed to do it at all?
I think it’s great to be critical of anyone in a leadership role, I just think those criticisms should be valid. I think a lot of people are just unaware of how little power any mayor has in most countries.
In politics the mayorship is typically where your career goes to die. It’s not typically a launching board into a career path where you have actual power. Now, I hope that mamdani is charismatic enough to overcome that hurdle, but I wouldn’t put money on it.
New York mayors have been so corrupt in the past that the city and state have erected countless ways to roadblock any kind of drastic change. He’s going to have to find new ways to work around those barriers or amass enough political capital to bulldoze them, or oust the people trying to stop him. That’s going to take time.
If he has little political power, then it’s pointless to defend him, no? We don’t need a 100+ comment thread on some mayor.
I don’t think it’s pointless to defend anyone regardless of their political power. He’s a good example of an American politician not being a huge pile of trash, that’s valuable regardless of his position.
Can’t wait for the new excuses when his term is almost over. Squishy succs always have some bullshit to spout
Wow, right before his re-election and you want to bring up the 2027 NYPD raids on the People’s Forum and tenants orgs? Mamdani was pretty clear in the press conference defending Tisch that he found those disgraceful. You’re just trying to get Barron Trump elected.
If you criticize Mamdani it means you want his opponent, third generation WASP Landlord Pretending to be Cuban, to win.
