Why the hell do I keep clicking on these? It’s always worse than what I would do if I was trying to parody their position. Today the frustration about having to pretend to dislike genocide is wearing dangerously thin:

Inb4 “I wAnT nO gEnOcIdE” like it’s some kind of clever gotcha response that shows anything but their whole white bougie kid politics having ass.

Pure projection, almost all of the people I know who take an actual principled stance against Israel are working class POC.

I don’t even get the point they’re trying to make! Is it that only sheltered and material comfortable children are capable of having a conscience? That thinking we have any influence over our elected officials is naive idealism of thr sort only possessed by people too young to know better?

Yeah that’s basically it. The idea is that anyone insisting on taking a hard stance is only able to be idealistic because have no skin in the game and that the people who really know how things work due to lived experience are cold pragmatists out of necessity. It’s a standard Internet thing where the argument is appropriate in other contexts, but has been coopted by people who don’t have any respect for that appropriate context and just engage in sophistry whenever the argument will make them sound smarter.

This is funny to me because becoming a stone cold pragmatist is to simply arrive at Marxism lol

Isn’t it also kind of racist? Like white people can’t care about things or hold strong political beliefs because of white privilege?

Great strategy for winning voters to your side!

It’s probably the same reason “outrage porn” exists for both Dems and Republicans.

“Senator from backwoods middle of nowhere [R] said racist thing!”

“Drag queen exists in a small town”

      “Immigrant man did criminal thing!”

      Etc.

It activates some sort of pleasure zone in our brains. IDK why or how but I think political junkies get entertainment from this kind of content. Like we know it’s going to upset us but we can’t look away. Wish I knew how to stop it.
