My disappointment in the US continues to be consistent and expected.
To let the world be.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Spez (Reddit CEO) just put out an announcement talking about how they'll verify bots vs humans. Get ready for a wave of new users into the Fediverse pretty soon!
2·11 hours agoYup! I was a part of the mass Digg exodus.
I figured that would happen again with reddit, but to my disappointment the internet is a much different place than it used to be.

8·20 hours agoI remember /r/AskReddit being THE spot, and it was great to read on the go since it was just text. All the novelty accounts were awesome, RamblesOffTopic being a favorite of mine haha.

8·20 hours agoIndeed!!
As a side tangent, I used to get so mad on old forums when someone would update their avatar lol I didn’t recognize names, I recognized their picture. So if they changed they might as well be a new user until I recognized we’ve spoken before, haha.

2·19 hours agoI think they must be - though I can’t figure out which one, haha.
I can’t figure out how to do it via the website, or Voyager / Mlem on iOS.

12·20 hours agoI think there was a big shift for reddit in 2016 after they bought (and then shut down…) AlienBlue and then launch their official app. That moment it felt like when the number of users just exploded, but with that, the quality of posts (and average age of the user) dropped.
Lemmy/the fediverse reminds me of 2010-2015 reddit (which is a good thing!)
I couldn’t take current events anymore and now I’m in therapy haha long overdue really.
I definitely think you’re right in that there are degrees to the evil these countries are perpetrating on the innocent.
I feel like the OP was just saying fuck X country who does evil, which is far from the complete list, haha.
Not to my knowledge, but I’m sure they’d like to and don’t recognize Taiwan as separate from China.
Taiwan, among other things.
Agreed! I’ve definitely got my eye on them for my next GPU upgrade (someday)

Reddit@lemmy.world•Reddit's permaban feels very dystopian. What are my options ?
1·1 day agoI was banned for speaking up against a proposed bill that reeked pro-life ulterior motives. I won’t mislead, my language is very harsh and crass when it comes to speaking to pro-life people on abortion, but I’ve been speaking like that on the site for 15 years.
Maybe I just “got lucky” in all that time and never got caught, or maybe it’s like you said and they’re trying to shift the site more conservative.
Good riddance, honestly it’s been a masochistic hole for me for probably the last 5-10 years.
I have higher hopes for this place, it reminds me of the early days of reddit before it exploded in popularity sometime in 2016 (and with that, the quality of posts and average age of the user plummeted).

I think your method is probably better, definitely more variety!
Nice username btw :)
Despite being a childish choice, any new restaurant I go to I order the chicken tenders. It’s pretty hard to mess those up (and they’re usually on the cheaper end).
I like to “get a review” from my wife and friends on their meals, and then I’ll decide if I want to branch out to the full menu if there’s a return visit.
“Toes to noes!” Stretching your foot upward helps prevent it.

3·2 days agoTIL! I’m sure I saw it but never questioned it back in the day, just speaks to the immersion. Video for those interested!

Agreed. I remember leaving MySpace for Facebook (shit I even remember Xanga before MySpace).
At some point, it felt like the internet just got smaller, became 5 websites. And on those 5 websites, you’d find something like: a picture of a tweet posted to reddit and the tweet is about an instagram post"
Really disheartening as someone who came up with the “wild west” internet (which definitely had its issues, but it felt like human issues, not corporate issues)
