Sorry, there was also a plane that hit a pentagonal building, and one that hit a field. Still not much compared to having your entire country bombed to rubble.

1·14 hours agoMan, I don’t know if there are even going to be elections. If there are, they probably won’t be fair ones. Even if there are elections, and the Democrats win, will they do anything? If history is any guide, they won’t, and there will just be an even more fascist Republican government after them. You’re going to have to try breaking out of this death spiral in some other way than just “voting Democrat, scolding people for criticizing the Democrats”, because it has gone very poorly so far.
Anyway, I think you’re really overestimating how many left wingers there are, period, let alone the amount that didn’t vote and could have made a difference. The Democrats, huge losers, predictably lost. They’ll probably keep doing it. Come up with a new plan.

1·14 hours agoI didn’t allow anything, I’m a Canadian and can’t vote in your elections. I still wouldn’t have been able to bring myself to vote for either of your genocide parties if I could.
I don’t understand why you people have such a vested interest in pretending the democrats are completely blameless for everything. It was their election to lose, and they lost it, because they suck. They could have done something for people when they were in power, they could have offered to do something if they were elected. Instead they did nothing at all! They continue to do nothing aside from say “make sure to vote in the mid-terms!” No attempt to mobilize people, nothing but the most tepid criticisms of the Trump regime. Useless! Yet somehow fools like you just compulsively have to carry water for their pathetic controlled opposition party, despite the fact that they’re responsible for Trump being elected in the first place. What you need is a new party. Until you give up on the Democrats, you’ll never get anywhere.

11·14 hours agoNikolai Yezhov, head of the NKVD during the height of the great purge. He fell out of favour, was tortured, convicted of various crimes (including wrongful purgings, funny enough), and secretly executed. Don’t feel too bad for him though, he was a nasty character.
I don’t think it’s a particularly apt comparison. He was previously an important government minister, edited out of the picture to pretend that actually, Stalin was never cool with him. This woman is just a citizen that the US government has decided to humiliate using generative AI.

11·15 hours agoI find it highly distasteful how pro-genocide democrats are still using the Arab-Americans who couldn’t bring them to vote for the people who were actively slaughtering their family members for a cheap dig at the left. You lost the election, get over it and look to the future. Try to find a way to actually mobilize people rather than scolding people for not voting for genocidaires.
America went crazy over planes flying into a couple towers and started two wars over it. Now imagine it was every building in the country.
Chuck Norris facts were briefly preceded by Vin Diesel facts, which had the same format, and Zach Braff facts, which took the form of quotes and usually were about him being a murderer, rapist, or klansman.

2·16 hours agoI think I first heard the phrase “rules-based international order” spoken by Trudeau a few years ago, and suddenly it was everywhere. This was the same rules-based international order that killed a million people in Iraq, another million in Vietnam, a few million in Korea, and untold millions more around the world, so it wasn’t hard to determine that it was a lie. Perhaps naming it helped kill the illusion.

1·17 hours agoI don’t put much stock into the “Russian puppet” theory. Presidents have been removed for far, far less than destroying NATO on behalf of the foreign enemy. If he really was a foreign agent, the CIA or some other three letter agency would have gotten rid of him one way or another.
It also lets America off the hook. “Is this the culmination of a process that started before Reagan? No, it was the bad country, Russia, that used their puppet to destroy us. Without Russia and their puppet, everything would be fine.” The effect of the claim, and I would argue the point of it, is to exonerate the Democrats and non-MAGA Republicans for all their failures and misdeeds, to chalk Trumpism off as an aberration, and to promote the idea that everything will be fixed once this one guy goes away. It’s a simplistic and self-serving idea that reads like an airport novel, and it shouldn’t be taken very seriously.
The truth is much stupider and much scarier. The smart people in American politics and government have slowly been rotated out, leaving the stupids. Republican culture war politics, originally just red meat for the base, has wormed its way into the actual world view of the people at the top. They believed their own propaganda, and think that maintaining global hegemony through soft power and finance is “woke”, and “giving money away to third-world shitholes.” They don’t actually understand that they were the primary beneficiary of the old world order, and harken back to the good old days when America would simply violently impose its will on the rest of the world, not realizing that America never stopped doing that, and all the diplomatic power and financial power was just the velvet glove over the mailed fist.
This is probably a good thing for the world, at least in the long term, but it’s very bad for us and for Europe. We let the vampire in a long time ago, letting it offer us benefits and protection at the expense of our independence and our complicity. Now it’s turned on its minions, and we’re weak, long since made ourselves dependent on it. Look at how Macron grovelled to Trump about Iran - “Brilliant work, master! We are in complete agreement about the townsfolk and who their blood truly belongs to! But why must you feed on one of us, your friends?” The vampire does not have friends, it has prey and it has servants. Now it’s decided that the servants are prey as well.

Canada@lemmy.ca•17 per cent of Americans want the U.S. to annex Canada: survey
1·18 hours agoMost likely the other half of the roughly 30% of Americans who represent the MAGA coalition think that annexation would be doing us a favour - elevating a bunch of ungrateful socialists to the American standard of living or something like that.

Wasn’t the turnout like 66%? I think that’s better than usual, no? Anyway, most of the people who didn’t vote are probably just apolitical, not left wingers.
The point isn’t that there’s some secret reservoir of secret left-wing ideologues the Democrats can tap into, it’s that if you make peoples lives better in a concrete way, not only they tend to vote for you, they become politicized. FDR won three terms by doing that. The Democrats of today would prefer to watch the country slide into fascism than offer anyone anything.
