Reached day 14 of Pikmin 1.
I was stuck on a particular place for couple of days cause I didn’t realise you can take as many bombs as you want from the “cans”. I thought you can only pick the ones that are outside.
A door needed 6 bombs but there were only 4 bombs outside, so had been trying to bring them from far away and having trouble with that. Later realised you can just throw in the Pikmin and they will go in and bring out a bomb. Still not sure if there are infinite bombs or there were just 2 extra hidden inside.
Cleared the third area but lost majority of my pikmin, so went back to first area for a day and “farmed” some pikmin, back to 100+ for all three types. Time to enter the fourth area next.
Played some more God of War: Ragnarok.
I have unlocked more skills so enjoying the combat more now. Blades of Chaos are also pretty fun to use. I didn’t use them too much in the first game, and was ignoring them mostly here too, but having fun with them now.
The relationship between Kratos and Atreus has also changed. Atreus has reached the rebellious teenage phase, and apparently god teenagers aren’t much different from human teenagers.
There are also many easter eggs, for instance you collect these poems throughout the game, and each poem is about a PlayStation franchise. I didn’t realise that at first, thinking they are just random collectibles, but it became obvious after a few.
Looking forward to how the story progresses.
Finished Monster Hunter Wilds. Or at least saw the credits roll. The final monster Zoh Shia wasn’t that difficult. The most difficult one had to be Rathalos. Rest weren’t that bad.
There should still be a ton of game left, I think we have only covered a small part, but let’s see.
It’s also coming to Switch 2. I think Prologue Demo was just released or is about to release in a few days. Right now I am wondering if I should double dip and switch to Switch 2 version of the game. Or I can just finish it on PS and get Monster Hunter Rise on Switch, but I am not sure I would like to play two Monster Hunter games back to back.
Also played couple of hours of Arc Raiders. I have been playing it here and there with a friend, and they announced a beta PvE mode for this weekend so I went in to try that. I am not a fan of PvP and have been hoping for a pure PvE mode since the start, so very happy with this. Hope they make it a permanent addition. They also released a major update, Frozen Trail, so exploring it a bit too.
Will probably play it some more over the weekend too. Want to make use of this PvE weekend as much as I can.
What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?
Finished MIO: Memories in Orbit!
While the game did get less frustrating later on I was very burned out at that point, so I just got the “Normal” ending and won’t be trying to get the “True” ending.
Maybe turning on assists from the beginning would’ve avoided that, but overall I think this game is just poorly designed. It relies way too much on trial-and-error for both platforming and boss battles, while being extremely punishing thanks to low health, no healing, lack of a reasonable checkpoint system (leading to constant runbacks), and just plain lack of polish with inconsistent hitboxes (so many frustrating moments with the red plants that act as “spikes” in platforming sections) and some control issues with the grapple mechanic.
Also has a very… contentious mechanic to say the least. I’ve put it in spoiler tags but you should consider reading it if you’re interested in the game.
Mechanics Spoiler
There are story-related moments where you permanently lose health. There’s a plot reason for that, and enemies also lose a chunk of their life, but it felt like a slap in the face considering how you are constantly struggling with the low amount of total health.
Overall I’d say this is only recommended for the “Silksong is easy” crowd. And I think even them will get frustrated in some parts of the game.
I will however leave praise for the “Normal” ending final boss, that battle was excellent - reminded me of some of my favorite bosses in harder games like Hollow Knight or Nine Sols.
Playing Picross S+!
Finished the e1 puzzles. Got the e2 pack and will keep playing from time to time.
Probably resuming Super Robot Wars Y Anniversary Expansion Pack for now, don’t want to start a big game with Final Fantasy Resonance releasing soon.
Are there assists that can make game easier? Which you can enable from start? And is it worth it with those assists? For someone in “Silksong is super hard, I am never even going to try it” crowd.
Are there assists that can make game easier?
Yes, there are assists and you can turn them on anytime:
- Eroded Bosses: Bosses get weaker if you keep losing to them.
- Ground Healing: You have one health point that automatically regenerates if you stay still on the ground for a few seconds.
- Pacifist: Enemies won’t attack you unless you strike them first.
And is it worth it with those assists? For someone in “Silksong is super hard, I am never even going to try it” crowd.
Tough question. It’s certainly easier than Silksong, but I think you’d still find this game too hard even with assists on.
- From what I read the boss assist caps at ~1/2 the required hits to defeat them, which is still a lot.
- Ground Healing lets you keep retrying the plataforming sections freely, without worrying about dying and going back to a savepoint, but they’ll still be hard. Like, this is a fairly early-game (optional) section, and it gets much, much worse.
- Pacifist will be handy if you screw up and die, and need to go through a crowded area again, but not much useful for anything else.
lol, that video is all I needed. Thanks. One less item in wishlist now 😁
I’ve been playing Mario + Rabbids lately (both games). I went back to the first game to 100% it and I’m on the last 2 ultimate challenges of the donkey kong dlc now. I’ll probably finish those up this weekend. Honestly? It’s crazy how fun these games are. A mario squad tactics game made by ubisoft with its minions-like characters sounds like a recipe for disaster but wow did they kind of nail it.
I’ve also been playing Dragons Dogma 2 (on PC though it did release on switch I hear). The dark arisen content is taking a while to get to though, I’m 20 hours in to this file and I still have only done the intro lost rites dungeons… I went to Norgan and I’m still getting my ass beat by the first group of enemies there at level 50, even though the zone is recommended for level 40! Hard mode has felt pretty inconsequential in the base game so far but I guess they really mean it in the dlc! Frankly, I’m quite thrilled about that. It means I don’t have to worry about accidentally overlevelling like it’s so easy to do in the base game. All in all though, I’m having a great time with all the updates from the last few months, and I’m looking forward to finally getting into Norgan proper!
I remember when it was leaked that a Mario and rabbids game is coming out by Ubisoft, the reception was extremely negative, then they showed the game and the reception immediately changed.
I only picked up the 2nd Mario + Rabbids game lately (never played the first one) and omg it’s so much fun. Combining the XCom like gameplay with smooth movement instead of grid-based makes it so much more fun to play than most other xcom likes I’ve played. Have to pick it up again sometime. The switch home menu makes it really easy to forget which games I own xD
Am also interested in getting back into DD2 but I’ve only recently purchased Shadow of the Erdtree so that’ll take precedence for now.
Still playing through my solo insane run of Gears E Day. Patiently waiting for Ocarina.
Less than 3 weeks left!
I haven’t had much time to play recently, but I’ll hopefully be able to play some Toy Story this weekend. I got Toy Story: Retro Roundup! + Toy Story 3 Complete Edition Double Pack physical for Switch 2. I checked out some of the games (I only played the SNES one back in the day), but haven’t spent much time with it. I’ll also definitely go through the documentary stuff which is always awesome and very appreciated. Love Digital Eclipse!
Oh yeah, I was looking at. I am more interested in Toy Story 3 than others, but not sure yet.
Have fun!
Pikman 1 and 2 are really fun games.
I honestly am not sure. I want to stream a spooky halloween game tonight but I’ll see what the F2P games on steam look like.
I might just play Operation Flashpoint Cold War Crisis (for the 1000 time) since the remastered edition came out last month. For a 25 year old game they sure did give it some visual improvements without ruining the classic game.
Yeah, haven’t played 2 yet, but Pikmin 1 is definitely fun.
Good luck with your stream!
Mario and Luigi: partners in time. Just got a dspico and was testing it out which turned into a few hours which turned into “eff it might as well beat it now!”
I messed up totally though and bonused nothing but pow the first 12-15 levels not realizing you get bigger bonuses if you jump around (pun fully intended). So now I’m like 1 shard away from the final castle with very bad stats, but it’s actually made it more fun than some other MarioPGs I’ve played.
Hmm… I haven’t played any Mario and Luigi game so not sure what this jumping around means. Should finally play the Brothership.
Had a busy week and not much time to play with me Switch.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: So this one was the mainstay game this week. With basically nothing else in-between. Only 3 hours in thus far. Still liking it more than Fire Emblem tho hehe.
And uh… ye that’s my week in Switch gaming… I gotta bump those numbers up.
Looking forward to Sports Resort releasing soon. But I’ve decided not to buy any new games for now (besides that sports game) to clear the backlog up a bit. So far I think this has been working out great. Also still very happy with the purchase.
Xenoblade and Fire Emblem are very different games, but glad to see you are enjoying it!
Glad they are. Wouldn’t be having fun if they’re both the same xD
Heh, true.
Just went through (the last half of) Ocarina of time this week. Excited to see, very soon, how the remake revamps it.
Less than 3 weeks remaining!
I finished The Pitt in Fallout 3. I didn’t even remotely play it the way I was supposed to, but I still enjoyed it. It’s tied with Point Lookout as my favorite, actually. Point Lookout really should be my favorite but its main story did not interest me at all. The only thing left to do is the Broken Steel expansion and I recently learned it only contains 3 main and 3 side quests, so I’m close to being done period. I was expecting a little more from a story expansion, but I’m curious to see what happens. There is something I’d like to see for the finale, but I’m not going to say it out loud to jinx it.
I finished the Hueco Mundo Arc of Bleach: Rebirth of Souls. One last story arc to go! I still can’t believe how long Story Mode is. It’s so long, I think I’m actually going to reach level 99 just from it alone! It doesn’t really mean anything, the shop hasn’t added anything new in a while, but it’s weird.
I hunted Khezu in Monster Hunter GU and I’m starting to really feel the heaviness of the old games. Dodge rolls really aren’t a thing, especially since you can’t roll backwards. When Khezu starts to charge his electric attack while I’m attacking, I will take the hit. There just doesn’t seem to be anything I can do. My only options are rolling forward, left or right, neither of which will do anything for me. So in return, I’m playing much more patiently, but my hunting times are still fine, so I don’t think this is necessarily bad? The difference between a monster’s enraged and tired state is also much bigger than in modern games. Angry monsters get so fast, it makes me feel even slower than I already do!
This weekend, I’ll tackle Gypceros. It’s a shame I never got to experience his trick blind, it would have been funny.
Good luck with Gypceros and finishing Fallout 3.
