I think these stats should only count the original theatrical run.
To be fair, the only reason “Avatar” was formerly the highest-grossing film of all time was because it was re-released multiple times.
And “Gone With the Wind” (the highest grossing film of all time adjusted for inflation) made the majority of its’ money through decades of re-releases. So re-releases absolutely still go towards a film’s total box office.
I understand that. Doesn’t change my stance.
Well, until the next avatar re-release at least.
In 2029 for the 20th anniversary.
That is, unless Doomsday and Secret Wars beat them to the punch.
