I get that there are trolls and people engaging in bad faith, but it feels like nearly nobody has any patience for differing points of view anymore. Disagreement or just unfamiliarity is now some sort of unforgivable moral failing, no one is allowed to have previously held a different opinion that changed, and people who agree with you but not to the same level of extremity are the worst of all because they are traitors. Insane fucking purity tests. Keep us all fighting each other instead of ever being able to coordinate enough to effect any change.

Propaganda works better if there is noone pointing out that it’s misinformation or some kind of false narrative, so they ban everyone who dares to explain that. It’s the same modus operandi as has been used in reddit subs like theDonald/conservatives/latestagecapitalism since at least 2016.
They also know that they’re not going to convince most people, but they don’t need to, they only need to convince a small number of people that both sides are the same and that voting is pointless for a hypothetical 49.9-50.1 election to turn into 50.1-49.9.

They some years back at least wanted to ban everyone from all sorts of words after the R one was disallowed. Idiot, stupid, all sorts of stuff. I am against banning words, and don’t think banning everyone from using one because some are misusing it is effective. But I gave way on the R word, that’s not my focus.
But I don’t entirely have a good view of their mods either although I never got a violation on their sub as I recall…
I have actually seen people policing the words idiot and stupid here as recently as 3 months ago. I genuinely don’t think anyone has seen those words as ableist, ever.
(Sure it hurts if someone calls you stupid in person in front of others, because it implies they’re confident enough to pick out a pattern of behaviour, but it doesn’t mean “you have a disability.” Being called R word on the other hand will always hurt unless its an established thing among friends.)
