my first memory i can remember is my mom yelling at me as i was walking backwards down the hallway so you can imagine what the rest of my childhood was like. i graduated high school and im looking for a job. obviously the job market isnt great and ive been mostly ghosted/not even called back. with that in mind i was expecting actual hell to break loose when im doing nothing at home while my family has to go to school and work but its actually been the opposite? my mom has been uncharacteristically calm and nice to me and does not show any signs of resentment with me staying at home and sleeping in. i do care for my siblings and help them with homework while she is at work and do some of the household chores but idk if thats enough for such a huge change in her behaviour. yesterday she did have a moment where she bursted into my room and told me im doing nothing with my life but its nothing like what she would do in the past nd today she is back to being nice and brought us donuts and said we will go to taco bell when my brother feels better. what do u think

My mom chilled out when I got older too. She was strict and overbearing and yelled a lot. I think for her it was a combo of 1. fewer young kids stressing her out, and 2. not feeling like she had to press down life lessons and morality (grew up catholic) on me at every opportunity. She still gives me her opinions but shes so chill now and doesnt remember most of the traumatizing fights we had. Im childfree because her rage comes out of me sometimes and i would never want to inflict that on a child.

    1. She might just be maturing as a person and realized she fucked up by emotionally abusing you when you were younger but is doing that thing that parents do where they don’t apologize to their children because “I’m a parent. I’m not supposed to apologize to my children.”

    2. She might just think the job market is horrid and that as much as she thinks you’re a fuckup, not even the perfect student and child can conjure a job out of this market, so she’s giving you some slack. This is especially true if every single person your age that she’s knows is also unemployed.
