In September, researchers outside China noticed satellite imagery of military and government sites across the country were blurred on Apple Maps.
BBC Verify has identified thousands of locations obscured on the platform, including several detention facilities linked to alleged human rights abuses.

There are even US laws that prevent US satellite companies from having clear images of Israel.
a 1997 US law known as the Kyl-Bingaman Amendment (KBA) prohibits US companies from publishing satellite imagery of Israel at a Ground Sampling Distance lower than what is commercially available. This generally means that US-based satellite companies like DigitalGlobe and viewing platforms like Google Earth won’t publish any images of Israel that are better than 2m resolution.
It’s news because the Apple cult believes that Apple doesn’t bend over backward for authoritarian governments and “fights” for the consumer. This case is not exactly involving any consumers but:
- Apple kissing the ring of the pedo king
- Apple bending over for CCP
- Apple siloing notifications to the government without user knowledge
- Apple wanting to scan every pic you take
- and so on …
News like these are a good counter to their marketing narrative.
