Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf says the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States recognizes the Islamic Republic’s rights and meets its conditions for ending the war.

He made the remarks during a parliamentary session on Sunday, commemorating the Sacred Defense Week, which marks the start of an eight-year war imposed on Iran in the 1980s by then-Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

“Our messages have been conveyed clearly to the other side, and our conditions have been explained through mediators. The enemy knows full well that the path to deception and unilateral coercion is closed,” he said.

“Until these conditions are met, Iran’s legitimate rights are recognized, and the commitments made by the United States are fulfilled, there will be no prospect for returning to the previous negotiating framework and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.”
