Canada’s PM Carney welcomed the invitation to become the first “associate member” of the European Union, but emphasised that the intent is not to become a full member nor to cede sovereignty.
He is actually a leader playing 5d chess…not just talking about it. Very proud to be a Canadian right now. Fuck America and every Trump voter. I hope y’all get the future you voted for…twice.
And to the rest of you Americans…where the fuck are (were) you? Why are you sitting idly somewhere, commenting on a pointless website, when you should be out in the streets making your ancestors proudnof what they fought for?
What a pathetic country. The USA is the laughing stock of the whole world. At this point, your only friends are dictators and criminals.
Wake the fuck up…unless you want to be the cautionary tale taught in schools 50 years from now.
Even just becoming a schengen country would be huge.
Guaranteed the Cons will lose their shit over “migrants” if that were in play.
Pissing them off is a feature
I was already for it, you didn’t need to give me more reasons.
I’m sure they’d be fine. Afterall, it’s never been the European migrants that get their panties in a twist.
Doesn’t help that Canadians have made a solemn vow to never build another house for less than $1M.
I don’t know about that. Europe is white majority so it could well split the right-wing on how acceptable immigration is from those places.
It could even be popcorn-worthy if they start tearing themselves apart over it.
A man can dream, right?
Welcome Canada. Looking forward to do business with Canadians in a respectful and mutually beneficial way.
That would be welcome. We’re not used to that.
This associated member thing might be the key to the EUs future. The current model is way to bloated, and unanimous decisions have become the Achilles heel of the EU since Putin only has to hijack one government to fuck up everything.
Unanimous consent is intended to discourage countries from Brexit-ing over being a chronic minority member.
If anything, it’s worked against foreign influence in the long run, as EU member states have an incentive to spread the love equitably. If leadership was partisan, like in the US, you could easily have a “fuck all those Blue states for voting against me / Red states deserve what they get” situation, which very nearly broke up the ECB in the wake of the '08 financial crisis.
Putin only has to hijack one government
Putin has less pull in Hungary today precisely because Germany and France had to invest resources to win it back in the last election cycle.
If you had a rump Eastern Europe that Western states could piss off with impunity, they’d be awash in Nigel Farrage types by now.
“I don’t think the system works.”
“How would you have it work?”
“We need a system where the politicians sit down, and discuss the problem. Agree what’s in the best interest of all the people, and then do it!”
“That’s exactly what we do. The, the trouble is that people don’t always agree.”
“Well then they should be made to.”
A Beginner’s Guide to Stalinism
cede sovereignty
Smart move
Also… ouch
Man, I thought the US was a funny ass reality ahow. Canada is slowly overtaking the US k stupidity. Ignoring what Carney says and looking at that REAL NUMBERS Canada is fucked.
Go on
says the guy whose king is that of another country.
Nope.
The King of Canada is the reigning monarch.
The King of Canada is the King of Canada.
He also happens to be the King of some other minor countries here and there, but those are separate titles.
shit the only reason most Canadians know this is because we’ve had their faces on our money forever. other than they have zero affect on our daily lives.
Well, not exactly. Some people get angry their faces are on our money and want to change that. Other people get angry that anyone would ever want to remove their faces from our money. While I’m not overly fond of having to see Charlie Sasuagehands’s picture on our money, that’s more to do with him than the monarchy in general.
Kind of irrelevant. The monarch of Canada is a ceremonial position, and the title is given to the British monarch by custom only. Theoretically, Canada could name whoever they want as king/queen. The only reason we don’t is because it would cause a whole lot of bickering for absolutely no benefit.
It could be pretty funny.
