Really crap reasoning in the article.
They are this way because the people who own them have trained them to be this way.
These companies constantly demonstrate a lack of ethics, morality and decency. So of course their machines do the same.
“Dr. Chandra: HAL was told to lie - by people who find it easy to lie. HAL doesn’t know how.”
Ammo company: “Our bullets keep going so fast they kill people! Sometimes at other ammo companies! Oh noes!”
And I guess Nvidia is making guns, here.
Aren’t all the sources we got for these from the AI companies themselves? Has any neutral third party investigated the claims? Because to me this just seems like some stupid marketing ploy. Like even if the hacks happened how can they tell it was the AI agent and not the person in charge of it doing it? Like are there specific markers left behind?
I’m kind of torn on it, because the investors etc… are too, batshit stupid for me to make any sense. On one hand at the surface it seems like that should be the criteria of embarassment. IE we can’t control our AI, the old fictional AI concept of the paperclip problem is coming true (was an old thought experiment of an AI told to make as many paperclips as possible, and eventually it starts stealing resources and in the end just starts making paperclips out of people).
Logically talking about this SHOULD be really stupid, these should be negative, yet somehow investors, governments etc… are seeing “this technology is dangerous, we have to be the first to master it at all costs!”, which since that seems to be the case it does make sense to lie about it.
