Just the thumbnail here is seriously funny! But this is all it’s really good for I think: Ridicule.
Actually using this in games I think is so incredibly unnecessary. Are games bad or limited because of poor graphics? No. Are games better if they have great graphics? Not really.

Hard agree

Depends on how you define “great”. I’ve definitely played games before where the art direction and general visual artistry was a huge part of the selling point. But that doesn’t have to be photorealistic - “great graphics” can be something like pixel art majesty (CF: REPLACED).
That being said, some games are certainly elevated by incredible photorealistic visuals. Bodycam has basically built a whole premise on it, and it would certainly be a lesser game without its graphics.
Fair point. I was thinking in the sense of success: Many games have seen huge success, among the biggest are Minecraft and Terraria, where there’s arguably not a big focus on graphics (that’s not to say that there’s not an art direction!).
In regards to Bodycam, it’s eerily realistic. But this is not thanks to DLSS, and probably has tons better performance as a result. Furthermore, a huge part of the realism is how it feels, not only how it looks. DLSS is only for textures, while animations can easily make things look weird when DLSS is slapped on top of games where there is a general balance between the quality of textures and animations.
DLSS is taking you further away from the art direction and general visual artistry that the devs intended though.
Also you are somewhat misunderstanding the premise of Bodycam lmao…I swear every time that game blows up on YouTube/twitch/tiktok the claims about it get even wildler.
I do agree with your main argument, I’m just being a pedantic dick.
DLSS 5 is not meant to be slapped on like a filter but to be something the devs use as another way to craft their desired visual style.
OP’s video is interesting because it shows what it does to a game if applied several times. But even once makes the characters look weird because it goes so hard against the original art style.
DLSS 5 as it is seems way more suited for something like say Resident Evil that is in a “realistic but not quite” territory by default.
I wasn’t commenting on the DLSS 5 slop filter here, only on the general question “do ‘great’ graphics matter in a game”. I agree that slopifying a game takes you further away from the intended art direction, which I’m not a fan of.
And whatever the mechanical premise of the actual gameplay of Bodycam, the impact of it would be much less with stylized Fortnite cartoon graphics as opposed to the current photorealistic presentation. That’s all.
The human thumb
I think this comment would benefit from a clear distinction between graphical fidelity and art style.
Are games better if they have great graphics? Not really.
Hard disagree.
You’re not interested in experiencing the creative choices of the Art Director and all of the other artists involved in making the game?
Eh?
Why does he say at the end of the video… “Valve please fix.” What is there to fix? The game looks great without DLSS5. Unless they mean bringing back the 2007 graphics, audio, and gameplay.
old meme
Yeah, but why?
And this is to go even further beyond!
Maybe a bit of a tangent, but DLSS5 is ridiculous from another perspective. With normal settings, it reduces your performance to give you essentially something that you could achieve with Reshade and playing with the contrast settings a bit. Who the hell said that this would be a good product to ship?
slop fans
Are there actual fans of this?
If anything, it felt like Nvidia, like most companies, felt the urgency to shove AI into their work and they did it in the most useless way possible.
you’ll find ai slop fans in every thread arguing that LLMs are the future and we’re all dumb dumbs for not hopping on nvidia’s dick
Heavy travolta vibes
The framerate becomes visibly bad after 4 passes. 5 and 6 look pretty unplayable just from how slow the idle animations become.
Professionals have standards.
JarateDLSS5?! Nooooooooooooo!
I would play TF2 like this
It would be cool to watch this 10 year old game running on 120fps on a modern gaming PC at ultra run at 20fps with this setting.
It would be pretty sweet 😎 Hopefully I can get this running on my computer.
