It’s true, even just 5 years ago saying anything positive about China outside a very few specific places on the western internet made you a heretic, now it’s not all that uncommon to see people unironically posting Chad Xi Jinpings and Do Nothing, Win memes.

It’s happy to see so many people come around on China. An extremely well-read communist I know did the opposite recently and denounced the CPC as transphobic and revisionist. Began calling herself a Maoist. It was a bit disheartening. The way I see it, I know which country has the world saving tech. Can’t do anything on a dying world.
I think people need an overall nuanced view of China. It’s not like China is trying to save the world from imperialism, but more like they are a piece in the anti-inperialist struggle that needs to be taken into account. I think there are many Marxists that tend to be edgy by talking how China is imperialist because it’s exporting capital to other countries, but fail to see that China is the only country right now that is trying to sponsor south-to-south bilateral or multilateral agreements that go outside of the Western financial system. Without China, defeating US imperialism is simply borderline impossible.
Yes, China is revisionist, China is not even close to the USSR level of internationalism (even though you can argue that USSR internationalism was one of the factors that caused its economic downfall), Chinese capital overseas is many times very exploitative and predatory of local populations. However, undoubtedly, China won’t sponsor the most reactionary parties in your global south country to push a pro-Chinese capital agenda.
So, even though I have many criticisms of China, I cannot stress enough that the most important arena is the domestic one. For God’s sake, people should USE the contradiction between China and the West to advance their socialist programmes. Their task as a revolutionary is to fight against capitalist hegemony domestically not to just engage in virtue signalling internationally. This attitude only shows at the same time how fundamentally principled (and smug) these people are and how irrelevant their position is in the dispute over the conscience of the proletariat.
