Ummm…except that all those “federal deregulatory efforts” mean they don’t have to do any of that in order to build them. So they won’t, of course. Why would they, when you’ve already given them the free-reign to do whatever they want?

What data centers are net energy negative? Maybe if they designed the building inefficiently large and then placed solar panels on the roof… Maybe. But I haven’t seen any articles or papers or evidence of such a data center. Maybe some have on premise energy generators like natural gas but they are inherently less efficient than the state/federal/municipality ran ones which operate on a larger scale and enjoy the benefits of doing such.
Maybe a combination data center and nuclear power plant? But that’s totally speculative and probably has never even been seriously sketched out.

These are outrageous statements. They try to exaggerate the power of the underlying technology to get us to focus our attention on science fictional scenarios over the real harms of how AI is being deployed. But few of them shook me as deeply as a statement from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman at Blackrock’s US Infrastructure Summit in March.

That’s amazing. This guy is so out of touch he doesn’t even understand how much he’s sabotaging himself for the mid-terms.
