For at least the last 45 years, Republicans have cast every Democrat politician as a Socialist or extreme leftist. No matter how left, center, or middle they are, Republicans always say they’re far left. So why the hell would you move to the right just because you’re afraid they’re going to call you names? Everyone knows that no matter how far to the right you move, they’re still going to scream that you’re the most extreme liberal who has ever run for office?
It’s the same thing that happened with the GOP. Moderate neoconservatives got pulled into the fascist/tea party/MAGA movement and lumped together by the liberal establishment. Now they’re stuck there because they’d rather vote within party lines than vote for a lib.
Now libs are getting thrown in the same boat as DSA, including the Marxists and anarchists. The DNC wants to stay relevant, they see leftists are winning and do not want to piss off what’s left of their liberal voting base by siding with the GOP against the DSA, who are proposing very sensible progressive reforms.
The right had painted a target on anyone left of center since the 90s and the rise of alt-right talk radio (Rush Limbaugh). Then they went completely off the deep end when Obama was elected and the brief period of time Dems had control of congress (and ultimately failed because they serve the same special interests).
The two-party ticket is the problem, yet that’s the way it is until DSA-backed candidates gain enough traction in government to finally enact the great split.
I think republicans being shameless liars is the problem… but you know… think what you want I guess.
I would level that same accusation against the liberal establishment. All talk, no follow through. No fight, no action, and it’s all by design. They serve the same corporate donors, bow to AIPAC just like the GOP. They just like to monopolize politeness through political correctness, in order to exploit marginalized groups for votes. All while engaging in insider trading.
One side wants to do a genocide on trans people and immigrants.
Equivocating sides is fascist apologia. Get out of here with your both sides bullshit. No one is falling for it.
No, liberals want to say they’ll help marginalized groups while continuing to support the capitalist institutions that feed their oppression.
I haven’t seen much a fight out of the Dems lately as trans and other groups are losing their rights. Not to mention their totally incoherent and weak election platform in 2024.
People are waking up and starting to see how useless they are. The wave of actual leftists are coming, and the Carvills, Pelosis, Schumers, Manchins and Fettermans need to get out of the way. Not fighting against the GOP and refusing to primary actual leftists makes them complicit, and therefore, just as fascist.
Ok sure, they don’t fight the fascists hard enough. I agree.
One side still IS the fascists though.
Sometimes details matter, and sometimes they don’t. There were a lot of homophobes who defeated the Nazis.
Should allies of gay people have rejected their help in world war 2?
“Sorry. I know the Nazis are genociding gay people, but I won’t be seen fighting alongside a homophobe like you, Paul.”
Google pragmatism.
Use it.
(John Fetterman hasn’t been a Democrat since his brain injury. Absolutely get him out of there. I agree with you on him)
Did pragmatism and compromise work when Obama was president and Dems had control of congress, only managing to bang out a watered-down capitalist healthcare bill, and refused to completely steamroll the opposition, like the GOP are doing now? Or how they stole the primary from Bernie, who would’ve won against Trump?
I’m welcome to taking allies as well, but the potential allies im seeing seem to not want to get with program. And in many instances, they’re fighting us. No more compromising with a neoliberal agenda. Leftism and progressivism is getting far more popular now.
Democrats already face an uphill battle in their effort to unseat Republican Sen. Ashley Moody. An escalating war of words between Nixon and Fried complicates efforts to unify Democrats.
Wrong. The rift is there already. Better to escalate now. Hillary Clinton lost because of this “centrism is good” bullshit, among other reasons (e.g., sexism, lies). Corporate politicians of all parties deserve to be confronted ASAP.
Get the centrist to fuck off now. Trump was their fault as much as MAGA. Actually, probably just as much.
In with the Bernie, out with the Schumer. If fewer corporate connections than Bernie, that’s cool too.
The truth is, the neoliberals have an uphill battle against populist conservative Republicans. Socialists might have an advantage.
I should probably expand on this. Neoliberals have a hard time driving voter turnout because it’s the same people who vote for them who also decided that maybe something more conservative would be better, as the neoliberal agenda has spent 30 years not living up to its promises.
But progressive socialist liberalism is ALSO about change, and is driven by people who are passionate about placing that change in the hands of regular people.
So it can absorb some of the people who voted for Republicans because they weren’t neoliberal, and also rouse the large body of non voters to actually get out and vote. That’s a much larger voting bloc than the neoliberals have available; it’s just a much poorer one.
Conservative populists and neoliberals like to trot out “left” vs “right” to make it seem like politics is on a single line and you can trend more one way or the other. But in reality, often voting for change means voting for the change that seems most achievable, and there’s no left vs right about that.
These moderates need to fuck off already
“Won’t anybody think of the rich people?”
- Politician about to lose his job, 2026.
Fried has such a chance to be cool about this, actually prove the dem party is a big tent, and put the country and party ahead of their personal politics. Nixon won over vindman signficantly, it wasnt neck and neck, the people that make up the party want a dsa aligned person more than a trump-focused centrist - the democratic party is what if not a democracy that at least reflects the will of its own members?
Democratic Socialist need to act as their own party. The Democratic National Convention (DNC) does not represent our interest.
I thought this too, but they can’t act as spoilers. Democratic Socialists need to beat Centrists in the primaries. Otherwise you throw more elections to the conservatives.
After decades of sliding right, We finally have a chance to shift that Overton window slightly to the left and people are second guessing it?
I’m so jaded and suspicious now that I see stupid ideas like this as fake lefty conservative infiltrators or agitprop bots attempting to psyop people who experience empathy by spreading self-sabotaging propaganda.
The risk is obviously too high to fracture our base now of all times. This reads as obvious agitation and concern trolling.
This is true, although I fantasize about a party that does nothing but illegalize Israel’s lobby, prosecute foreign agents, and prosecute pedophiles in the Epstein class. If we could just have that, things would improve immediately. Can you imagine Israel not taking all our money.
No, that’s the way to eliminate the power of both, and give MAGA full power to destroy democracy. The DemSocs need to take over the Democratic Party, the way the Tea Party/ MAGA took over the Republican party.
Yes split the vote on everyone who experiences empathy.
Just what sane Americans needs right now! Less voting power! Brilliant!

It’s about fucking time people start realizing this
You’d think if these party officials were so concerned about progressive candidates having a hard time with certain electorates or just in general, they, as loyal Democratic Party functionaries, would be sending extra resources and working double time to promote the candidate. If bland genocide-tolerant moderates are better for general elections then you can focus money and support on helping shore up the DSA candidates they think will have a harder time.
Oddly that hasn’t generally been the response.
Maybe she should drop the DSA talks and bring Dick Cheney on the campaign trailer. Or, I don’t know, give “policies that benefit people” a chance.
From Nikki Fried’s Wikipedia page
After graduating, Fried worked at the law firm of Holland & Knight in Jacksonville, alongside Ashley Moody, a friend of Fried from the University of Florida who would later serve alongside her as the Florida Attorney General.
