Basically, a couple of Star Citizen devs decided to show off and play the game’s latest internal build during a live stream, completely unscripted. What could possibly go wrong.
Unsurprisingly, this build turned out to be a frustratingly broken mess. 
The way these devs interacted gives you the impression that they hate each other, the game, and life in general. 
That’s understandable when you’re working on Chris Roberts’ delusions under his infamously tender care.
Then one of their bosses walks in, and says to the guy who came up with the idea of doing a live stream, to “wrap it up, it was your idea”, essentially backstabbing him after he helped promote the whole thing earlier. 
Oh, after this stream they made another 900k in only 2 days, because of course. The dream never dies. More money will surely fix this. 
I put $35 in because I loved starlancer and freelancer. This was in 2012.
Yeah that’s fine, it was completely reasonable at project launch to look at the proposed gameplay, the name attached to it, the crowdfunding model, and put down some spare change on it. Anyone still funding it in 2026 either has terminal 90’s nostalgia, the worst case of sunk cost fallacy, or has an underlying findom fetish.
There is still a lot of people out there with 6 figure income and rather low cost of living. Some people are buying those 1000$ TCG boxes too.
When you say “$1000 TCG box,” do you mean boxes of booster packs? Or fancy storage boxes for TCG cards?

Still gives me headache how they are selling way fewer packs for way more money and it still sells out immediately.

Collector boosters contain special art and serialized cards and shit. They’re a specific kind of booster for people who don’t feel like they spend enough on cardboard

Yeah, the prices have gotten outlandish there, but at least people are getting actual cards that can be used in an actual, established game. And a lot of the pricing can be explained by the speculation grift going on with TCG’s at the moment (thanks Logan Paul). There’s not even a hint of a finished game here, no big bet on a financial windfall.
Unless… is it possible these people think their special supporter ships will be so rare and sought after when the game launches (lol) that they’ll be able to trade them for big $$$? If that’s the case, then Christ that’s even more pathetic.
A lot of foils from the collectors packs are so curled fresh out of packs that it can be questionable whether they are playable.
Many of them are very definitely not tournament legal out of the box
That said you can temporarily fix pringling with humidity control and then double sleeving usually prevents them from pringling that badly again
It’s just caused by a difference in humidity between where the card was manufactured and where it currently is, so if you happen to live in the same climate as the factory it basically doesn’t happen at all. Of course you can solve it like Riftbound does, which means making cards really thick and stiff, which is awesome and they look and feel great, but I think it’s more expensive to make them
I paid about the same for No Man’s Sky a few years ago and have gotten about a thousand hours and many free expansions. Different game philosophy and design goals from Star Citizen of course, but at least it works and is fun to play.
NMS devs actually love their games and their fanbase, unlike Chris Roberts.
NMS is great though.
There was a poll deciding if they should focus on the game or keep asking for more money, the more money option won with 90%.
there’s an alternate universe where somebody forced Chris Roberts to finish the game and it came out in like 2015 or 2016 and was a fairly decent Kickstarter project and it maybe has one or even two entire sequels by now
