People have way more important immediate things like paying rent and feeding their kids to think about.

Humans cannot think big picture and long term, on average.

Or just busy partying on the beach every weekend.

Our parks around here get feral on weekends. Giant families come out, and its great to see them have fun. They play loud music, fine, they get a lil roudy, fine. The trash though. They buy, plastic single use items like plastic silverware, disposable grills, paper plates, paper towels, juice boxes (the straw wrappers can be found everywhere the next morning). They leave behind camping chairs, hammocks, towells, beach blankets, plastic toys, plastic water bottles, empty can, baby diapers (ew) Chicken bones. Leave behind dorito chip bags, little pieces of foil, they dump thier charcoal, where ever the fuck they want.

Maybe not the same family everytime, but the parks go through this every weekend. They roll into the lot with giant SUVs, and leave behind a lot of trash and stuff. It’s actually insane.

Some people just dont care. Their kid found an empty frito bag in the water? they let thier kid play with it. The litter doesnt bother them, and they add to the pile. It disturbs me so much as an anti-consumerist, leave no trace, environmentalist. Like. Some people, just dont fucking care.

Edit to add, and Im sorry, but if these folks can afford to move thier kitchen to the outdoors every weekend, in thier giant 2020-2026 SUV’s, I dont think these are the type so strapped for cash they cant worry about climate change.

Or it burns/floods their homes…leopards feasting their faces is the only time they care. Or deporting their fiancé…selfish fucking fascists.

People are truly out there seeing all the facts, then calmly asking,

Alt text, since I don’t know how to add it to a gif

A scene of a group of people from the show South Park, from an episode discussing climate change. One man stands up and asks, “When should I start to worry?”

Hmm, these guys look at “voter concerns” and see climate change isn’t important to one particular demographic of people (who tend to skew older and less educated.) Meanwhile, a significant amount of young, educated people are choosing not to have children due to climate change (among other reasons, but it’s a big one.) News articles regularly ask why we aren’t having babies.

It’s almost like, if you put all the puzzle pieces together, it makes a “big picture” of sorts. Like, maybe “voter concerns” don’t tell the whole story. Maybe if we looked at people’s behavior, and the circumstances thereof, we’d see that actions speak louder than words.

Many of the people I know are of the opinion that the climate is changing, unsure how much is just a natural cycle or caused by us. But one thing they feel confident in is that the people in power only want to use it to gain money and power, and that there will be no climate impact to giving them money and power. They also don’t want to live under strict rules when other nations are burning trash or sending it down their rivers into the ocean.
