They are preparing for an uprising, the USA will have its own Tiananmen Square soon the way things are going. If we don’t stop these things now, one of us is going to be Tank Man, standing with a bag of groceries, in front of an armored death machine on its way to kill students, and we’re all going to have to start making decisions about whether that’s the kind of country we want to live in. Good luck, and for the record, Tank Man was never seen again. This is what’s at stake. Universities having military equipment is not a joke, it’s not a mistake, and it’s not normal.

Tank Man was never seen again because no one, not even the CCCP, has been able to conclusively prove his identity. He remains anonymous to this very day, which is exactly something what would terrify the current regime. It’s also unlikely any of us would enjoy that luxury.

When it comes time to fight, remember that there can be no half measures this time.

we already did, in Ohio some years back.

american capitalism has ensured the bulk of us are too sick and/or tired to uprise.

Yeah right, Tank Man talked to the driver of the tank. You know in the US he’d just be run over or shot and the square would be leveled.

If you believe that, then it seems like an even more compelling reason to resist such a despotic regime. If you believe resistance to be extremely dangerous, then plan accordingly, but it’s not an excuse to not resist.

The fuck does this mean? We have footage of them speaking its not some opinion. And I dont believe it I know these fascists would crush those they could. Or did you miss the concentration camps lining all our states? The US is currently taking all the lessons they learned oppressing people abroad and bringing it home. People are being shot for being the wrong color at the wrong time on a scale we’ve never seen. Highly doubt you could even appear to interfere with such a brazen operation without dying if they did that.

Don’t freak out, we’re on the same side and I think we’re both seeing and saying the same thing, but I’m going to keep staying calm about it and talking in measured tones while I work methodically against it. You are of course welcome to react to this situation however you see fit, but I do think it’s important to realize that lashing out with aimless but ultimately impotent rage isn’t going to help anything and potentially even serves their purposes. If their fascist system has already grown dangerously strong, then we must grow our own efforts into an even stronger system to be capable of fighting it and ultimately winning against it. Part of that is reaching out to and educating people who are still on the fence or don’t fully understand the situation, I don’t think you’re my target audience for this kind of comment, so I hope you’re not taking my suggestions personally.

while I work methodically against it.

That’s my struggle. There’s a big difference between methodologically and opportunistically, unless the method is opportunity.

              What methods do you have?

So often, it feels like there’s nothing to do. I don’t have a method but I do have an open mind for opportunities. Such as the protests, which I’ve attended. What more, though?

There’s not enough organized opposition, not enough groups with goals to align oneself with. There’s nobody who can employ concerned citizens under the common cause of fighting back. There’s no secret groups working in the shadows on a long term plan to hit back. There’s just the fucking mess we’ve had for the past decade.

Yapping on Lemmy is about all I’ve got. j/k

Seriously though, I think getting involved and active locally is the absolute best thing anyone can do. No matter where you are, what your situation is, the answer lies in other people like you. Talk to everyone you can. Support local businesses. Get involved in local politics. Hang out at your local library. Build a resilient local community. Volunteer with local youth. Yeah, it’s cliche, no it won’t solve all the problems we’re facing at this actual moment but that’s where the grass grows from, it starts at the grassroots. It’s not demonstrative, it’s participative. We’ve been robbed of our sense of community, sabotaged from building neighborhoods, told that talking about politics is a mortal sin and convinced that it is dangerous. That undermines actually finding any common ground with our neighbors and that’s really where it all started going wrong. In an increasingly interconnected world, our physical neighbors are not less important, they are more important, they are our anchor to the real world that we all actually live in no matter how much we may try to hide from it virtually. They have divided us, and now they are conquering. We need to stop being divided and start to connect with all the other human beings around us again.

Also just to add, these grassroots movements can feel like they aren’t big enough when the fascists seem to be kicking all the dominos down simultaneously. But dont give up. Stay with your community and remember what Gandalf said, its the small acts of kindness that keep the darkness at bay. I’ve seen a lot of grassroots movements quickly swell and then fall over because people thought it would be instant change.

Looks like the universities have been doing this for years and the law in 2021 is trying to make them more transparent about it. I’m so glad journalists are still doing their jobs. This is a win for the public that The Guardian is going after them and that there are laws that we can judge them with.

Several campus police departments created reports after CalMatters’ inquiries, though the law requires the documents to be posted online as long as the equipment is usable. Not all reports or policies contained the details mandated by the 2021 law; in many cases, campuses left out information, including manufacturers’ product descriptions, up-to-date inventories and equipment quantities. The University of California board of regents approved UC Berkeley’s annual report last September, but university police only published their equipment list on 7 April, after four CalMatters inquiries.

According to their own reports, San Jose State University and San Francisco State University own AR-15s even though Cal State’s policy does not authorize this. A Cal State spokesperson, Amy Bentley-Smith, said these AR-15s are standard issue, which would exempt them from the reporting requirement, even though San Jose’s report classifies them as specialized firearms and university police departments determine which equipment is standard issue. San Francisco State’s semi-automatic rifles are standard issue and won’t be listed in the annual report going forward, university spokesperson Robert King said.

      What do you mean?

Edit: oh, that they will use them.

I mean yeah, of course they will. What, they bought them for sport hunting?
