you can decrypt, convert to the newer apfs, and then re-encrypt. the end of the article explains the process. back up your stuff first, just in case.
It says that process doesn’t apply for HFS+ encrypted Time Machine drives? I think that’s the only place I’ll be impacted
Apple doesn’t explain the reason for the change. Still, the move appears to be another step in Apple’s transition to APFS, its file system with built-in encryption support, which replaced Mac OS Extended as the default Mac file system in macOS High Sierra.
Huh, I use this to store a lot of encrypted data like my taxes… that is a very important PSA
