It should be noted that it’s likely Squid Game was likely inspired by this. They wore almost the exact same track suits, guards were known to force their captives to play games where they would punish the losers with violence (not killing them on the spot though, as far as I’m aware), and the fact that they’d take in the poor and downtrodden.
The only difference is that the winners of the games didn’t get a lot of money, really.
That makes the ending of season 1 even weirder. With someone calling cops to help the person that passed out on the street in the winter.
