I want to expand my playlist, do you have any recommendations?

Some of my current favorites include Kiki Rockwell, Shara Nova (My Brightest Diamond,) Jesca Hoop, Mirah, Feist and Rising Appalachia.

Edit: There are too many of you to thank individually, so just know my list has expanded drastically and you’re all appreciated.

It’s sweet of you to post the list, but you should have kept up with not posting here. It does specifically say “Women only…” not “Women only … unless you think it’s important for women to hear.”

    • Linkin Park has released an album 2 years ago with a new vocalist and she kicks ass, she was in a band called Dead Sara before
    • Lari Basilio: guitariste, no vocals.

I’ve heard some concerning things about the new Linkin Park singer. Namely her involvement with Danny Masterson and Scientology. Has there been any good updates on those scandals from when she was first announced?

She denounced her own support of the dude as something she regretted and said she supported the victims. As for Scientology, she has never addressed it publically and judging by the way things work in Scientology, I’m happy to give her a pass on that one. They’re not a forgiving bunch, let’s just say.

The biggest turn-off for me was the Danny Masterson support. Thanks for letting me know she’s distanced herself from that!

On mobile, but here’s a few big ones:

Popular (I’d argue mainstream) I’ve not seen mentioned:

Florence and the Machine (no one mentioned her yet? Similar style to Fiest)

St. Vincent (again, pretty well known. Won a Grammy in 2025)

Brandi Carlisle (more folk/country. I enjoy her collaborations more than her solo stuff)

    Semi-popular:

    Lucious (female duo vocals)

    Suki Waterhouse

    +1 for The Beaches

    Edit to add:

    Jenny Lewis

    The Kills

This isn’t going to be super strongly thematically or focused on a specific genre, but here’s what I’ve been listening to lately.

Bands will be listed, along with the specific album I’ve been listening to in parenthesis, in case you need a place to start.

    • Hop Along (Bark Your Head Off, Dog)
    • The Beths (Jump Rope Gazers)
    • Ekko Astral (Quartz EP)
    • Gezebelle Gaburgably (The Freezer)
    • No Vacation (Phasing)
    • Sussanah Joffe (Your Mother’s Name)

Against Me, but honestly, I have only really listened to one of their songs called Crash. It’s on my happy playlist because it’s goofy af and improves my mood. Maybe all their other songs suck, I dunno, but Crash is fun.

Fever Ray is pretty cool. She makes some pretty dark and weird music with bizarre music videos, dude xD I dig it.

MØ’s old stuff is great. I think she became a little too poppy and generic over the years, but her early works are great. Strange, fun and to me some of her songs evoke this weird nostalgia that I can’t quite place.

Ray Dee Oh was a Danish duo in the 80s that made a lot of fun and cool music. I listen to them sometimes.

Heart was an old 70s band that made a toooooon of awesome music. Magic Man is probably their most famous song, I think?

Heilung has a really cool female singer. Also a weird band where the band members wear antlers and dress like prehistoric deities.

Under Byen - another weird band. They’re Danish and made weird music. I don’t know if they’re still around today, but look up Samme Stof som Stof and see if the music tickles your fancy.

Mélanie Laurent has some cute songs I listen to sometimes. Kiss and Fin are my favs of hers.

Tash Sultana, I highly recommend if you are into funky music. She became famous for a video she did in her mom’s living room, called Jungle. It’s really cool.

Zheani also makes some weird music. She’s mostly known for being a fan of Die Antwoord and a victim of Ninja’s. Some people believe her, some people don’t. I always believed her. And well, doesn’t hurt that her music is pretty good.

There are plenty more, but these were some of the bands/artists of the female persuasion that I enjoy listening to, and yes, I like weird music and you should be grateful that I didn’t start dragging you down the rabbit hole of Bulgarian women’s choir teaming up with tradtional Mongolian throat singing band and all that shit. That album is called Fly Fly My Sadness, btw, and it slaps.

Yay, you’re a weirdo like me!

I haven’t come across any Mongolian female throat singers, but if you are curious about inuit throat singing, you will be in luck. I think it’s especially Canadian inuit who have this thing that I forget the name of, but it’s where two women will throatsing to each other and try and match each other’s rhythm as they go faster and faster.

It’s very different from Mongolian throat singing, and if you have already been down the throat singing rabbit hole, I know you have heard inuit throat singing too! But yeah, it’s fun stuff. I managed to find some super old recordings at some point of both men and women who sing and throatsing. I think those were from Greenland, but it’s been awhile so I dunno where those are anymore xD

I haven’t gone too far down the rabbit hole so much as I’ve heard it and liked it. I’m Canadian Metís so I’ve heard inuit and other styles of indigenous singing at gatherings. If you like that stuff you’d probably love a track called “I Hope You Know” by Supaman/Ashley Hall.

If you know any good names, throw them at me. I always forget to look these people up when I see them.

Bro, same. I just eat all the music and tend to forget to note down names which has bitten me in the butt so many times Dx when I have a minute to think clearly, I’ll try and go through my millions of playlists and see if I can find something fun/cool where names are attached 😂

I’ll check out “I Hope You Know”! I’m always happy to munch on new music! Thank you for the recommendation!

Aww, definitely going to bookmark this thread.

I’ve completely fallen for Chelsea Wolfe last year. Also enjoying Portishead, Darkher and Emma Ruth Rundle a lot lately.

Oh yes, I am melancholic occasionally, how did you know?
