The only time my bootleg DVDs had menus was because I made the menus myself. I only did that for TV series, so I could select any of the episodes to watch instead of needing to scan through from start to finish. They were as basic as could be, so they technically were still the worst ones 🤷♂️
Was working in a record store where we had eastern european childrens DVDs for sale. A woman came in screaming at me. I don’t remember what, but my manager came out within a few seconds, and I take a step back.
She starts screaming at my manager, complaining about the DVD she has in her hand, stating what is wrong with is, and how can we sell porn hidden as children’s movies. She gets her money back and leaves.
We go into the backroom to see what she’s on about, and yup: full on hardcore!
I presume you worked for a bootleg DVD shop?
Nope. This was in Norway ~20 years ago.
I was on a charter bus once as a kid, for a school trip, and the driver had a pirated copy of Shrek 3 in the bus’s DVD player. I only remember this because the bus broke down along the way, right after the DVD player was turned on, but before anyone could actually start the movie.
So, we sat on the side of the road, while the DVD’s “menu” ran on a loop. Nearly two hours of Shrek yelling “get your royal highness to Far Far Away Land before I kick it there. Now, which way am I kicking?”
LOL that sounds awful! I remember those menus being fun for like 30 seconds and then they’d get straight up grating!
Does no menu count?
Dad got a copy of Super Troopers and when we played it all the special features played first before the actual film. No skipping possibleCounts!
This isn’t a proper answer to the question since it’s not bootleg, but the first few seasons of The Simpsons had like interactive gags that you had to get through before getting to the menu. It was fun the first time but insanely annoying when you had to click through an animation repeatedly every single time you wanted to throw on an episode
Anyone remember the Harry Potter DVDs that had janky games on them like dodging trees in the forbidden forest? And each button press took a full 5 seconds to register? It was cool but also jank
none of my bootleg movies included menus
