I don’t need 24oz of pasta sauce. Or 48. Or by the gallon. I need 8 ounces. And no I don’t want to have this jar of pasta sauce hanging around my fridge till it goes bad and not dominant to have pasta 3 time in a row.

Okay. Well now I need two more containers, because I have to portion it out. And now I need space in my freezer for the containers. And now I need to remember that I’ve got frozen pasta sauce in my freezer when thinking I could use some pasta sauce. And also its frozen, so I cant just use it as is. And also it gets the plastic storage containers I use stained with tomato sauce. And also, I can’t use glass, because this is going in the freezer, and it would crack the glass. And also I better know exactly how much sauce I’ll need at some future date and proportion appropriately otherwise I’ll have to thaw all the sauce, take what I need, and then refreeze, which violates basic food safety principals.

anyways. it seems like I really only need pasta sauce about every 30 days.

An 8 ounce can of tomato sauce is dirt cheap, buy that, add sugar, oregano, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper, onion powder and garlic powder.

In the UK it’s quite common for sauces to be available in 1 or 2 person pots/pouches, not sure where you are but see if there is an Aldi near you. They do some stir in sauce pots here at least.

You can get smaller jars, though the exact brand and quality will vary.

But you can freeze the leftover sauce with no real issues. So you don’t have to waste anything.

With the cost and weight of 8oz glass jars, they’d probably have to sell them at an extremely high price, or take a loss on each one.

Crazy people. Aldi/Lidl here (in Germany) have cans of chopped tomatoes and the standard size is 425ml. Which is pretty much good to make pasta sauce for 2 people?!

I always think of it as Americans "family first* bullshit we do. Everything is always made and designed for a nuclear family and it’s just fucking dumb and I hate it. It’s always cheaper to buy bigger too and I’m just like. I want one thing and they give me 30.

So yeah I get that and I hate it just as much. It’s so incredibly wasteful.
