How does it decide which elements to connect a new “thought” to? I’d imagine that can be quite complex if there’s 300 elements on the map and you need to scan them all?! Or does the user do the job of arranging all the “thoughts”?

Ja ich denke auch das macht viel aus. Also erstens mal bin ich sowieso Pedant, und alt genug um falsche Dinge nicht einfach so im Raum stehen zu lassen… Aber vor allem wenn ich mal daran denke wenn ich selber irgendwie in die Ecke gedrängt worden bin, tat es immer sehr gut wenn man irgendwie Leute hat die zu einem stehen und nicht einfach nur weggucken… Also ich denke mal gerade wegen der angegriffenen Personen ist das eigentlich Pflicht. Es ist leider nur manchmal wirklich schwer. Grad auch wenn man selbst nicht so der angriffslustige Typ ist, mit Erfahrung im Faustkampf. Also ich bin schon nach Hause gelaufen und hab mir gedacht, hättest du da mal was gesagt… Und mir vorgenommen das beim nächsten Mal besser zu machen. Kommt jetzt nicht oft vor, dass ich in so Situationen bin, aber es passiert.

Ja klar, das merke ich auch regelmäßig. Das war von meiner Seite jetzt nur erstmal auf Angst vor “Migranten” im Speziellen bezogen. Ich leb hier halt im Ruhrgebiet und im Zweifelsfall hatte ich genug Menschen um mich, mit Eltern die an Islam glauben, die selbst aus anderen Ländern kommen, ihren Kaffee anders trinken als ich… Letztlich lebt die ganze Region auch seit 200 Jahren oder sowas davon, dass hier Leute zum Arbeiten hinkamen… Also ich glaub ich habe da schon ein mehr durch die Realität geprägtes Bild und weiß so halb woran ich bin. Da muss ich mir weniger Angst machen, dass der nicht ganz so Bio-Deutsch aussehende Typ neben mir mich jetzt gleich auffressen möchte. Aber letztendlich bin ich natürlich auch empfänglich für Angstmache, Manipulation und so. Und wenn ich mich im Internet herumtreibe weiß ich auch oft nicht was jetzt Wahrheit ist und wo gezielt irgendwas erzählt wird.

Ich weiß nur nicht so ganz wie ich damit umgehen soll. Sollen wir die AfD-Wähler:innen mal ab und zu ganz doll knuddeln? Aber mehr so Zuckerbrot-und-Peitsche mäßig, damit sie wissen woran sie sind? Angst schüren vor den wirklichen Problemen? Also ich hab ja auch ab und zu mal Angst. Aber eher davor, dass einer von den Dullis die wir dabei erwischt haben wie sie mit einem Geldkoffer aus Russland zurückkommen, irgendwie doch an zu viel Macht gelangt.

And from my experience, it got easier to discuss with many people. At first there was some hype. It wasn’t clear where we’d be going with this… And now we all got some experience in how it affects the workplace atmosphere. How stuff like training new people doesn’t really work out anymore. Some of us tried to replace a broken harddrive at home or thought about buying a new gaming computer… And this isn’t just some hype and hypothetical discussion anymore, but the real-world effects are slowly trickling in. Makes it easier for me to have a more down-to-earth conversation.
I mean there’s still a lot of misinformation out there, and some people uphold crazy beliefs… But that isn’t all there is to it, anymore.

Would be interesting to get a follow-up, on how management responded. Oftentimes it’s difficult to quit AI at the job, because the employer will just demand you use AI and be “10x more productive”. And they’re the boss and it’s their project.

Why all the conditionals in the language? As far as I know “Wifi sensing” is already specified in 802.11bf and will be part of upcoming router generations. There’s no “would” and “could” or “might”? I never got why we countries don’t regulate big tech. Everything else is regulated, at least in most countries we have regulated working conditions and what companies can and can’t do, specifications of products like cars… rules on what cameras you can put up in your front yard, how your doctor or teacher needs to deal with your private information… We have competition law, GDPR if “normal” companies launch websites… Banks are highly regulated after they kept doing silly investment strategies which made them go bankrupt a few times too many…

Just big tech companies get completely free reign. All surveillance okay. We allow them to shape political discourse and entire society with their algorithms. They don’t pay taxes… With AI they’ve come to just steal stuff on a large scale… They give us pervert sunglasses, deepfakes and whatever our primitive instincts desire, for a mere $30 a month… All perfectly normal.

At least we here in Europe get cookie banners… 🤕 But come on, at least pay taxes and have some minimum standards when messing with people’s perception if reality.

Dunno if it’s necessarily worse tech… I don’t really care if it’s physical tokens which get exchanged or virtual ones… Point is, it has to work and cover a wide array of use-cases. Has to work in edge-cases, for both residents and tourists, has to work when there’s surprise maintenance at the bank, when there’s an internet outage… We gotta easily pay $1000 for a hotel for 10 days and the rental car, or 73ct at the local flea market. I might need to pay for a bus ticket or gasoline in the middle if some forest where there isn’t any 5G coverage…

I think exchanging physical tokens is just absurdly good at that. I’m just not sure if it can’t be done any other way? I mean we obviously don’t have that hypothetical tech in the real world, because banks want to control the process and they always come up with some central way of doing it, with them in the middle. That’s kinda their business model. And the alternative concept is some convoluted approach which needs an internet connection and a decent amount of resources to do the transactions…

There’s some better approaches at digital cash like GNU Taler I think that one is pretty much like cash. And we only need one of the transaction parties to be online (to prevent double-spending of the virtual tokens).

Edit: And we need some default. Makes it way more comfortable to live in a country that just demands people to offer a payment method and I can go anywhere and just pay with that. In contrast to install 25 different apps, open 20 bank accounts to cover all possible cases, and the parking meter at the tourist place randomly asks me to install the 26th app.

Yeah, it’s a shame, “free-speech” gets abused by bad people and it can’t be the scope for any platform. I could imagine it being used for other purposes as well. For example I always wanted to run a Piracy community that doesn’t remove links or tutorials on how exactly we do it. But that probably also crosses the lines. …Some other Robin Hood activity… I mean it could be used for good as well, depending on perspective.

Sry, I don’t know if we’re talking past each other?! You said you were using Summit or Voyager and I went through the settings of Summit. If you’re now(?) using a desktop computer, you’d obviously need to tackle it in some other way. Like the browser extension I mentioned earlier?!

It seems Summit indeed has some feature like this. There’s some “Local tracking events”. There’s “Your Actions” close to the bottom of the menu. If I scroll to the second tab “Completed actions”, that pretty much looks like a local copy of every comment and post I sent out. So maybe what you’re looking for is already implemented?

I don’t have Voyager installed but maybe that’s worth searching through the settings as well.
