Cuba introduces some market reforms to weather the tightening of the US Blockade, and this dipshit starts yammering on about how Cuban Socialism is over.

Ultras, not even once 💀

Someone who cares more about posturing as a communist and holds actually-existing socialism to unrealistic standards not based on dialectical materialism. Will constantly flip-flop on which countries/movements they think are socialist if they support any at all. BE seems to be some kind of online-only Trotskyist-type (minus the Trotsky I guess, so like maybe a Marcyist of some kind), so he can be extreme in how he presents every single political event because he’s not accountable to any actual organization or group of people. He doesn’t have to actually do anything other than talk. It’s common in the streamer milieu and western “leftism” in general.

I normally agree with BE’s takes regarding the Western left mostly being rad libs and grifters, but yeah his recent comments on Cuba really rubbed me the wrong way. It just felt like a big Trotskyist/ left-com larp about how having markets now makes Cuba/ Vietnam/ China a State Capitalist society with zero understanding of DoTP.

I think what gets me about this, is that… The Cuban legislature voted almost unanimously to initiate these reforms, in order to weather the tightening blockade.

Do people like this think the entire Cuban government are secretly not really communists, waiting to betray the Revolution at any moment?

If I’m being charitable, one might argue that external factors forced the hand of the Cuban government to undo the gains of socialism. But there’s a highly class conscious and mobilized Cuban proletariat, who also have interests, and they seem to be ok with these reforms. Cuba has long talked about doing Chinese-style reforms to expand their productive forces.

And even if you think China isn’t Socialist, it’s relations of production are still light years ahead of any capitalist country in the West, or elsewhere, so there’s clearly something qualitatively different going on here.

So, what do these dorks expect Cuba to do? Let itself slowly starve? You can’t have Cuban socialism if you don’t have any Cubans 🙃🙃🙃

Same shit as with Venezuela. The victims of capitalism are bad for doing what they need to do to survive. Ultras only like socialists when they are dead, any living people trying to make socialism are not socialist enough until martyrdom

There is a certain level of theory that is honestly very hard for me to grasp. However, idk it seems like anyone who isn’t living in Cuba should keep their mouth shut on how they are handling shit? Like idk, it seems very…lordly? Not sure what word to use. To judge what is happening over there while they have had to deal with the brute force of the American empire on their heads constantly.

Like, let’s say Cuban Socialism is over. It just feels very irrelevant to the greater thing that is happening here. Feel like that energy could be better spent elsewhere.
