If one looks at the inputs, animal farming in Europe is not only an industry with shit working conditions, but nothing else than another arm of the fossil industry. When fuel prices go up, so will the prices for meat. Just converting fossil stuff into questionable food by a process step that uses and crunches poor living beings.

The carbon footprint of meat is at least ten times higher than that of vegetables. Even if the latter are globally shipped.
Yes and no. The thing about promoting a vegetarian diet is that you skip an additional step in producing the food. If you grow the plants, you may need fertilizer and that is affected by energy prices. But if you feed that plant to a cow, the cow is really inefficient in converting that plant into meat, like every animal. And raising cows also needs additional fossil input, f.e. for heating stables.
This seems like a win and I hope they can actually do something, but the agro lobby is incredibly strong in the EU. Livestock farming and especially pig farming has to be one of the worst industries known to man. Why farmers can’t treat these animals that provide for their income with some respect is beyond me.
