    Remember when they dug up a frozen ice age era bison and one of the discoverers literally made stew with some of the meat? I think id much rather eat that stew than human corpse stomach bread lol

      Many yeasts do not make alcohol well. It can be quite variable, but bread yeast is especially bad, as it has been selected to produce a lot of co2.

      Of course our society looks down on alcohol officially at least now, so maybe the strain of yeast had nothing to do with it.

        Mummy in question is 5300 years old, so not sure how specialized yeast was back then

          Just naturally it’s very variable. Which is why before they really started cultivating strains, fairly recently, there was a big emphasis on the region and year of the wines, because they relied on wild yeasts. Sometimes from their feet that they used to crush the grapes.

          But the egyptians were pretty advanced in a lot of things. They made both bread and beer. I bet they had their own strains and the practice was just lost in the dark ages.
