Who is the miserable asshole who voted against this?
California State Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones of the 40th district (Source). He’s got Chevron up there as a big donor and has supported many bills aimed at lining big oil’s pockets, so its no shock.
This is good but we should also let tenants install solar on buildings (ideally by a public bank potentially against a cut of the electrical savings).
e.g if a majority of the tenants in a building vote for it, you could secure a $200k system generating ~100mWh/year, which is $35K/year, using a ~4% would pay off the over 4 years, (or if you give the tenants a cut of the savings say 20% over 5-6 years)
Edit old math was wrong as where units for annual energy generation
Math is off. 100kwhr is 25 bucks.
With PG&E it is closer to $50. Exibit A: https://sanjosespotlight.com/fact-brief-do-santa-clara-residents-pay-a-fraction-of-what-san-jose-residents-pay-for-electricity/
