My inbox was reset to 9 months ago. I had a ton of unread messages that are gone. Are settings that I applied (subscribing to channels, blocking trolls (almost never cause I disagree with blocking), other customization) before the site went offline lost / need manual updates?

    I do wish we could get some clarity on some of this. The site was only down for maybe 1.5 mo. Missing 9 months of history is a big gap that deserves being at the very least acknowledged/addressed.

      Last I saw on BBOARD, they’re actively restoring the database.

      As an aside, while I do appreciate the updates on BBOARD, I feel lemmy updates would be useful on lemmy

    On an unrelated note: There is a donate link, and I’d like to donate, with paypal one last time before closing my PP account. But the link is broken. If it can be fixed, I’ll drop some money in the pot for future expenses.

      I’ve been disappointed that PP is the only way to support the site. Patreon would be nice, but anything that isn’t the company that cheated me out of some money two decades ago even though I had documentation that I’d paid the other party would be fine. I hate PP.

      I’ve donated a few times regardless. Sometimes you can’t escape companies you refuse to engage with if you wanna engage with someone else on the other end.

        Agree - PayPal screwed me out of over $200 in overdraft fees by spamming a transaction to an external account when I told them to pay from balance, refused to make it right, and it took months of battling my credit union to get half of the fees forgiven.

        I hate PayPal with the fury of a thousand burning suns, and there are endless horror stories like this out there, as well as them just arbitrarily stealing people’s money. I’m forced to keep an account but these days I keep an entirely separate bank account with an entirely separate bank to link to it, just to prevent the contagion from potentially spreading to anywhere where I actually keep a balance. FUCK PayPal.

        Yeah, I’ll probably have to use them for people with no other way to contribute, but I don’t have to have an account with so much personal information attached. Deleted it yesterday.
