Oh, this again? There was a similar finding a couple years ago. Turns out they measured platelet activity in 20 people a few minutes after consuming erythritol compared to consuming the same amount of glucose. Platelets are the cells responsible for forming blood clots that stop bleeding, and blood clots in certain places can have a negative effect on cardiovascular function. Observing activity in a something that performs a function that may do something else is a huge difference from measuring a causal effect.
This new study doesn’t seem to break new ground on the matter, so take it with a grain of salt. Or sugar. Or your choice of non-nutritive sweetener. If it’s cause enough concern for you, then just make sure you’re consuming a diet rich in whole foods, keep saturated fat under 10% of your total daily calorie intake, and get your weekly 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of vigorous cardio.
It’s best to avoid industry processed foods as much as possible.
I gave up sugar without resorting to any alternative sweeteners, and I’m glad I did. My reason was that eating sweet food led to me eating more sweet food, so the best idea was to give it up entirely. The sweetest things I eat now are apples, carrots, and blueberries.
I have limited my sugar intake in a similar fashion but I would never think of carrots as sweet. What kind of carrots are you eating?

Carrots definitely have a sweet flavour. You may just not have noticed if your daily diet consists of a lot of sugar, then that sweetness may have simply not registered for you.
