Fuck you, Iran. This war is bad, because of who started it how and how they are conducting it. War is bad period. Dictatorships are bad. Empires are bad.
Someone’s comparing USA to Russia, and that they should be sanctioned the same way
should be sanctioned the same way
I wonder how that’ll work out. Oops, your payment card isn’t working as we’re sanctioning VISA and MasterCard. Oops, your cloud infrastructure is gone as you cannot use AWS, Azure, GCP,… anymore. Oops 90% of the internet is gone, as you cannot use Cloudflare anymore. Oops now that the internet is basically gone, many devices stopped working. You’re lucky it isn’t winter anymore so you won’t miss heating too much. Oops, you cannot trade with other countries anymore as you’d probably need US dollars to clear the deal.
…
And that’s why a European movement is spreading promoting ‘buy in europe’ or ‘use European services’ or 'lets have our payment methods ’ and so on.
Did you notice?
Yeah, I know. And I respect is Europeans trying to get more sovereignty.
It’s not that these sanctions are impossible, it’s Just that we have still a bit of work to do to have a selection of effective ways. Also, if Trump wants to retaliate, he’s still got many ways currently.
Europe’ a problem is its inferiority complex towards US after it sent his better brains over there, which never came back.
German and Austrian governments and militaries are currently exploring ways to reduce their reliance on US tech. Most recently I heard Germany is making the Open Document Format the mandatory format for official government communications.
That is why you see the EU moving steadily away from the US. For example heating. The EU just singed trade deals with Australia and Canada, who are the 5th and 6th largest fossil gas exporters. They also like Mercosur have a lot of other natural resources, which the EU needs.
For trade the EU has the Euro, which is already the second biggest currency in the world making up about half of EU trade. It also seems to gain strength. There is SEPA and the digital Euro, which will help a lot. Honestly the EU is in a better position in this then most.
There are a lot of other examples like this, where the EU is moving away from the US. Usually quietly as to not piss of Trump, but actually relatively quickly. Probably the next big one will be to keep the Green Deal to reduce fossil fuel consumption.
I know, and I’m all for it. We’ve gotten far, but still not far enough for a general sanctioning. Specific areas may work, though
“As in other cases, the assessment under international law is the responsibility of the federal government, and I expect officials and dignitaries of the German Republic to await the outcome of this assessment and to respect it,” said Spahn in Berlin.
Spahn of all people is telling the president what is right. For Germany, that should be the bigger headline, especially as there is no room for assessing differently. The even bigger headline could be that after more than three weeks Germany still doesn’t know who started the war.
No need to worry. Spahn has already made a 3billion€ contribution to the international right.
