New fight music goes hard.
The shot of the moon reflected in the water to show Fern’s incoming attack that killed Hemmung was brilliant. Love the consistent Fern/moon imagery they have.
As usual there is a lot to praise about in this episode. From the insane production quality to peak character dynamics between the groups. The way Stark helped
MethodeGenau out of his negative thinking patterns by literally being a stand up guy and a good friend was my personal highlight! The demons on the other hand were underwhelming. Revolte waited for the group to split up and did literally nothing with this advantage. He later proved to be deceitful so why not attack a part of the group with full force? I’m starting to think demons are not cut out to be good antagonists as they are simply too stupid to win. Also, and I know I could get some flak for this but that attack should’ve killed
MethodeGenau and Stark right there and then. The fact that this risky move had no consequences is truly baffling. A fatal wound should at the very least leave a character unable to fight properly for another arc. This sets a bad precedent for future dangers our heroes will encounter because you can expect the plot armor to be miles thick and an overpowered cleric to jump into action just in time.I hope this doesn’t sound too negative because I really like the show and the second season so far! I’m just wondering how I’m supposed to get invested in conflicts at this point. And if this isn’t what the show is really about then why spend so much time on it?
EDIT: I meant Genau, not Methode. Thanks @Crank
I think you’ve meant Genau – Methode is the lady mage. And yeah, I agree with what you said. I think Frieren is great at SoL adventure stuff and this episode was absolutely beautiful visually, but characters do feel like they have a certain plot armor. If you think about it, up until now not a single important character has died or been hurt badly. Even if they were, they’re usually back up minutes later, seemingly unscathed. This really does affect the levels of tension that we should feel during fights. Let’s hope this won’t become a recurring theme, because other than that it’s been a fantastic show so far.

Also, being wounded doesn’t really change the way they fight or move. Half the time being wounded doesn’t even change their facial expressions.
Wow. Lesser anime would have stretched this into at least four plodding episodes. This was essentially perfect. Neither rushed nor lagging. Every moment felt important and impactful. Several times I tapped the screen afraid it was about to end only to have half the episode left.
Absolute banger episode. Madhouse really knows how to make fight scenes feel so alive!
Methode is actually way more badass than I thought.
And no way they actually said Sein would enjoy Methode’s company! I wonder if she would find him cute enough…Stark also deserves some credit for being able to keep up with (4) extremely skilled swordmans! I could say he was a star of this episode… I’m sorry I’ll stop now.

Done!
You’ve got to respect their ability to make characters interesting to watch despite some of them showing nearly no emotions.
And similarly, action packed fight scenes where everybody is calm and focused.
But I think they did Fern a little dirty here. She should have beaten that guy without having to wait for the fog to clear.
Making side characters interesting is an art form. In Frieren most of them feel like they are fleshed out so much that there have to be their own show somewhere and we just don’t know about it.
She could not see him from that distance with a fog. I was looking forward towards close combat. Fern just spawnkilled him from base
What an animation. So many action scenes and movement
