    Why do new rules need to be written to be able to punish people for breaking the law?

      It’s just pointless window dressing. What they won’t do is actually order their police to arrest ICE agents for flagrantly violating the law and Constitution. They’re already violating the highest law of the land. A city executive order is the lowest law of the land. This is actually just pointless virtue signalling. They’re too chicken shit to arrest ICE agents for violating all the other laws, and they’ll be too chicken shit to arrest ICE agents for violating this executive order.

        According to this article, you’re right: there is no directive to actually arrest ICE agents. Only “investigate”. Of note the FOP is against the order.

        The original EO hasn’t been uploaded yet but their press release says the police are to:

        • Document federal enforcement activities in accordance with CPD policy;
        • Ensure that any body-camera footage captured during the incident—including footage of any use of force, detentions, injuries, or other enforcement activity—is preserved;
        • Seek to identify the federal supervisory officer on scene, attempt to verify the supervisory officer’s name and badge number, and record the credential verification using body-cameras—including any refusal to comply;
        • Complete a report on any violation of state or local law by federal agents consistent with CPD policy;
        • Immediately summon emergency medical services and render aid to any injured person on the scene.

        This is literally toothless.

      It is very fucking telling that the actual pushback against this stuff is all from state and local government. With a handful of notable exceptions, federal reps and senators across the board clearly do not give that much of a shit.

        Wasn’t one of the very first things Trump2.0 did January 2025 to fire a lot of institutional leaders and install his loyalists?

        And the whole DOGE affair triggered more leadership change?

      Whatever you think to do against ICE, do against your local oligarch instead.

      Find the richest person within driving distance, and direct your anti-ICE activities at them.

    Assuming the local PD decides to actually arrest them instead of joining them. Some of those that work forces are the same that burn crosses.

    Another sternly-worded letter.

    Great.

    Call me when one of these mayors or governors has the balls to go down and stand in front of the protest.

    Not a bad speech, and ICE agents trying to intimidate observing Chicago PD officers is gonna be a lot harder than civilians, but isn’t it ridiculously hard to strip qualified immunity?

      Better yet, if an ICE agent is breaking into a home without a warrant, just shoot them. Without operating legally, they’re just armed gang members breaking into homes. It’s perfectly justified just to shoot them.
